Lieberman Launches Investigation Into Regulatory Rollbacks

Arsenic, Mining, Roadless Rules Targeted

WASHINGTON - Senator Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., announced Thursday he was launching an investigation into the Bush Administration's accelerated campaign to try to rescind or eliminate a range of public health and safety, and environmental protections.

"This misguided campaign by the new administration defies common sense and threatens to befoul the air we breathe, the water we drink and the lands we cherish," Lieberman said. "The peace of mind of our citizens and the exquisite natural beauty of our land deserve better."

These regulations were not formulated overnight or by irresponsible parties, Lieberman said. Months, sometimes years, of labor went into designing them. Public hearings were held around the nation. Extensive comment was solicited. And now, Lieberman added, "seemingly in the blink of an eye, one protection after another is being dismantled."

Many of these threatened rules have received widespread public attention. The administration has targeted scores of others, including rules that support the public's right to know about toxic lead contamination in their communities, that protect mine workers against toxic underground air pollution, that make our highways and roads safer, and that protect wilderness and wildlife areas from degradation.

Lieberman said he was launching an investigation "into the method behind this madness, that is, the decision-making process leading to these damaging actions. Who have they solicited comment from? Why aren't they conducting public hearings? What's the evidence they've amassed against the regulations?"

The Senator released three letters he has written to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Interior Department and the Agriculture Department, asking for a full accounting of their decisions on the arsenic, mining, and roadless rules.

"The arduous work that went into these rules in the first place - and the innocent people they are designed to protect - should not be disregarded so carelessly," Lieberman said. "President Bush promised during the campaign to set high environmental standards and build conservation partnerships between federal, state and local governments. Instead, his administration is razing high standards that have already been set and partnering with no one but those who would degrade the environment. 'If you own the land,' Bush said in one of his debates with Vice President Gore last year, 'every day is Earth Day.' Was that just another hollow campaign slogan?"

None of this matters to Dictator Dumbya, his coup d'etat was a success, and he's in charge now! This is what happens when you let a boy do a man's job. To him, it's all a game.

Lieberman must have missed Dumbya wearing his cute little bomber jacket with the name tag which says "President" under his name. This means Dumbya gets to play the head honcho, and he can do whatever HE WANTS! Naa naa-naa-naa naa!

I guess we we have all been befouled up to now, thanks Joe, since these regs were put in place the last couple of months of the Clinton administration and never got implemented. What a bunch of spin.

Ain't Gonna Happen, You are doing exactly what other repugs do when confronted with the truth about Bush, you change the subject and try to make someone else look bad, in an effort to get the readers mind off of what your little dictator is doing.

You cannot deny that Bush lied LIED during his campaign about what he was going to do as president. He's making a lot of people wish all he is doing is getting a BJ.

Can you say corrupt? Can you say bought and paid for? Bush makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is paying back his major contributors at the expense of the entire coundry. Clinton pardoned a man who's ex-wife donated money to his library and democratic causes.

Bush is changing laws in this country that that favor his contributors. Who is the criminal? Who has been influenced by money? GET A BRAIN you and others like you have had your little vendetta against Clinton backfire big time. The repugs did a good job bashing Clinton for 8 years, convincing so many to hate him, just so they could get into power. It's getting bad, real bad, and cannot go on like this much longer.

And by the way, what in the hell difference does it make what happened with Gores holdings when the entire country is damaged by the actions of Bush?????

Cherri,

Bush turned back no laws, just regs passed by Clinton's administration at the last minute. Those regs were never implemented, and as such, can be disallowed by the incoming administration. Maybe you're right and he's paying back his corporate buddies, but you are looking quite hysterical over what was obvious as to the actions Bush would take if elected, unless of course you are a complete idiot.

Clinton, Gore, Bush, they all have someone to pay back, but keep the government out of my wallet and out of my life and I'll be just fine. Some of us think there are already plenty of regs on the books without hundreds of pounds of additional ones.

Now I don't really know, but it looks like the beginning of "payback" time. Senate investigation; what next impeachment? Who knows? The one thing that I do expect is the creation of an active and violent, eco-terrorist underground. I am opposed to these radical green groups, but I expect them to become quite active and to increase in number. It will be the Bush legacy.

Best Wishes,,,

Z

Chemtrails, American re-education camps (for the unlucky) and death camps (for the lucky), Dictatorhip under a totalitarian theocracy, and a ruined economy will by Bush's legacy.
