Thomas- Guinness (you may want to check the spelling, I'm not sure I've got it right) is probably the largest brewery in England. (At least it's the best known here in the States.) In addition to their alcoholic beverages, they also seem to have a hand in Publishing the Guinness Book of World Records, originally printed to help settle pre-brawl barroom disputes. They might prove a bit too conservative to sponsor bar stool racing, but they'd be the obvious choice in England. Here in America, Budweiser would be the obvious first choice. You may be on to something here- Keep us all posted! (And please, call me Chip.)

In New Zealand we race toilet bowls around the bars, not stools. They have very nice motors.

Wow. My profound apologies to Irishmen everywhere. I guess that explains the little harp thingie in their logo, right? In my defense- the only one I have- I must admit that I do not drink. (So I was too sober to think straight? Works for me. Feel free to use that excuse yourself some time. Let me know if it works.) I still think Thomas G. Barclay is on to something BIG here with bar stool racing. I don't even want to know how they powered those racing toilets in New Zealand. (Methane?)

Used to be have motorized bar stools at the Pomona auto swap,we called them "stoolies".They got banned from the from the swap a couple years back because of insurance and too many crashes.

Matthew Kenney's last post begs the question: When it comes to bar stool racing, can you have "too many" crashes? It sounds like most of the pre-existing racing stools (now there's a disgusting picture painted) are single-seat affairs with a narrow tracks and a short wheelbase, making for quite the tottering roller. Also, it might be a little too easy to build just a single-seater. For JYW, I still think the situation calls for a rolling chassis to hold all four team members on their own bar stools, all rolling along on one big, but grossly underpowered, machine.

We have a tendency to stick engines on just about anything.Yes they are VERY unstable,especially with the race track being the aisles of the swap with corners that were a little too sharp.You know how the rule makers are....takes all the fun out.A version of the stoolie that would seat all four team members would be a riot to see race on a short course for a couple laps.As was suggested,one person steers,another throttles,while another operates the brakes.Maybe you could have all team members sit faceing the opposite direction with just the expert faceing forward directing the person that steers (turn left! no,your other left!).

Oh, this just keeps getting better and better! I like the idea of the barflies facing four directions, but if the seats all swivel- and they must- would it really matter? Of course, the Big Question is this: How will we know if we got Cathy Rogers' attention with this one? I guess we'll just have to wait and see- and watch every show!
