We have completed our first challenge...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

We successfully installed a 7000 lb., 101" wide, 113" long, 99" high forklift on the second story of a hotel ballroom.

This task was completed at the Marriot Waterside in Tampa, Fl. on March, 22nd, 2001 for a tradeshow.

This was done without any special construction of the unit.

Talk about your ship in a bottle!

Man! And you did that with a Shoebox, 3' of string, Duct Tape, Any color or variety of paint, A coat hanger, A mini flashlight, 8 - 1" or bigger washers? I'm really impressed. You really can build anything! ;)

Considering your location- right across the bay from me- I'm guessing you used a boat-lifting forklift like we see here in commercial dry dock storage companies and pulled the doors off the ballroom's balcony access. Now matter how you did it- I'm impressed! (Now how are you going to get it out when the show's over?)

Actually, we got it to fit in a freight elevator and manuvered through the hall, into the room. We had 1/4" of clearance at any time. To clear the hieght, we had to let the tire pressure out and hang people all over it.

Looked like Beverly Hillbillies....

It's out now...(although the elevator broke)

Impressive challenge! They should have let you run room service orders with it! So do you think a fork lift would make a good JYW challenge? Or just the elevator to lift it? (And now that I know the Rusty Renegades are local, I'll be rooting for the home team!)

The forklift would make a better challenge from a TV perspective. You are unlimited on the course options and designs...

The next thing we want to do is build the World's Fastest Forklift...but there are no records that we can find on this category.

(We have room for a blown Chevy small block in our units. Open pipes, of course)

A thought came to me on the forklift rodeos (yes, they do have them)I use to go to...

The challenge was to carry a open top 55 gallon drum filled with water around a course...

It was always fun...

Oh. Were those two adjacent threads unrelated?

My mistake!

I seem to recall a forklift built on the Red Green Show out of an old truck with a front cable winch, and extension ladder and two broken skis- and LOTS of duct tape, of course! This might be a worthy challenge for JYW!
