Are the Oscars Racist?

No one's using the ugly "R" word yet, but Hollywood heads are turning following a report that only two non-white actors have received a major Academy Award in the past decade: Whoopi Goldberg, supporting actress in "Ghost," and Cuba Gooding Jr., supporting actor in "Jerry Maguire." While 19 percent of the Screen Actors Guild and 8 percent of the Directors Guild of America are black, Hispanic or Asian, minorities received only 19 nominations in the top five categories in 10 years. The only minority nominees for top awards in tonight's Oscar ceremonies are Taiwan director Ang Lee for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and Puerto Rico-born Benicio Del Toro for supporting actor in "Traffic." Filmmakers blame factors ranging from Hollywood insularity to studios' efforts to woo overseas investors. "This is perhaps the last closed-door, segregated industry in America," says producer Warrington Hudlin, founder of the Black Filmmakers Foundation. "And they have shown no interest in changing."

Wait a minute here. Could this be the same ‘Hollywood’ crowd that champions the liberal causes and gives lip service to minority interests? Other than pandering the minorities for their votes, the democrats are the worst enemy of the poor and oppressed.

Syllogism:

A) All hollywood producers and casting agents are democratic. B) All hollywood producers and casting agents are consiring to deny roles to minorities, therefore they are bigots. C) All democrats are the enemy of the poor and oppressed.

Sorry socrates, even a beginners course in logic would have helped prevent you from making such a stupid statement.

Just sad Socrates. You certainly don't do justice to your namesake.

Well here is an interesting tag team. The quantum leaps of Mr. Shock framed by the learned words of Mr. Ape.

I’m honored by your interest in my thoughts.

I wouldn't describe it as "interest" in your "thoughts". In my case, it was the same compulsion that causes me to ask "Who cut the cheese" when someone has obvious flatulence. Before this thread, I never actually realized one could cause such hideous smells to be conveyed over the internet.

Of course they are, Hollywood is owned by Jews. Have you ever seen them hire a schwartz to host the show?

In 1939,I was the first Negro to receive an Oscar (Best Supporting Actress, Gone with the Wind). David O'Selznick was a good massa.

I think we should call them racist either way. Why should they be left out of this most consuming American phenomenon? Thespian back slapping should be at either at the front of minority recognition or catching the front of racist flack. Neither happens. What a shock.

Yes, the Oscars are racist. The solution is to establish quotas in order to force the academy to give awards to minorities regardless of whether they are deserving or not. Problem solved.

It's not so much about walking the walk as it is walking it when you overtalk the talk. Common problem with libs.

It's not so much about being an asshole as it is about continuing to be an asshole when you know you are one. Common problem with conservos.

Why look Mr. Carlos, you have attracted a new friend! You should be honored that he would take time off from the projects at the JPL to speak with you.

Why look Mr. Carlos, "So (cr@t.es)" is an asshole too, just like you!

Anyone notice that since Bush introduced his diverse supporters during the repug National convention that hthere has been an awful lot of "racial" issues brought to the attention of the American people? Could it be an attempt to allienate middle of the road republicans from minorities? Every time I turn around the subject of some extreme liberal racial incinent is being blasted out in the news. Hmmm, could some people be trying to drum up public support for more conservitive policies?

I was wondering where that reperation issue started, I had heard no call for such a thing in the past 30 years, even right after the civil rights movement. Odd that it is such a popular issue at the same time the far right is in the process of removing so many of the government regulations that support intagration. It is rather funny, the greed of big business seems to have convinced certain people that if they held a corrot out to the blacks that they would be as greedy and raise a public cry demanding restitution. Some have, not very many, and certainly not as many as some might have hoped. Most see the bigger picture and don't see it as a good idea, feeling it would cause more problems than it would be worth.

Considering the fact that the media no longer researches news, they just copy and paste what the wires feed them, we cannot expect realistic reporting of facts. The question is, where are these stories that are causing such friction between white males and minorities and women, coming from? Why the sudden influx of supposidly racial conflicts? Just as people seem to be becoming colorblind, there is all of these "issues" that bring race into everyday conversation.

Pretty good manipulation being used to influence peoples opinions don'tcha agree?

Good observations Cherri.

It's always been clear to the more highly evolved and sensitive individuals among mankind the reasons why the repugs are "conservative". They are extremely narrow-minded individuals, and are therefore ashamed to reveal the true depth of their ignorance. "Conservative" is really another way of saying they are pretentious to the point of being deceptive, usually repressing the disgusting nature and selfishness of their thoughts. Instead they choose to disguise their motives with a facade of "honor and dignity" or "patriotism". As we saw during the campaign, Dumbya gained support from such fools who feel more comfortable with this approach of putting up a front rather than being truly honest with themselves an others.

You are correct that their bigotry and racism is very pervasive, and now that they believe their party is in control they feel it is okay to be more vocal with their ignorant attitudes. The repugs will continue to make a big deal about the issue of race now that they feel Dumbya is backing them up by supporting rich white christians conservative bigots. By consistently making an issue out of it they will actually increase tension between races, hoping that this will eventually escalate to a conflict and all the minorities they hate will be wiped off the face of the earth.

The repugs can pretend they are morally superior and dignified, but we can see right through them. As with Hitler, the NWO Nazi Dumbya may be able to temporarily sidetrack the human race from its proper evolution for a brief time, but the good will always prevail over the evil. He won't be around long, and brief this rally of support by the ignorant will be over before you know it, clearing the path for a much brighter future for mankind.

“I was wondering where that reperation issue started, I had heard no call for such a thing in the past 30 years, even right after the civil rights movement.”

You might pose this question to the Reverend Jackson if he ever surfaces again. I’m told he is still trying to explain where all of his ‘ho’ money came from.

“As with Hitler, the NWO Nazi Dumbya may be able to temporarily sidetrack the human race from its proper evolution for a brief time, but the good will always prevail over the evil”.

Another scholar heard from.
