Some DVD set-tops can play SVCDs but some functions like FF, REV, etc. are disabled. This includes some Pioneer models, and they say so in the intsruction manual. Maybe your player is like this. You can take it all of the functions are available on a certain player if the SVCD logo is emblazoned on the front panel, and not buried as footnote in its manual. To test your SVCD it's best you go to some electronics outlet and check it out on models there.

Try to create a file that you will name Scandata.dat containing only the text " SCAN_VCD " place it in the " EXT " folder (Nero Burning Rom 5.0 and above). This helped me to be able to ff and rew at 2x -15x I got a kiss 1302 player.

The scandata.dat file did not work so well when I played the SVCD in my Pioneer DV-343. I was really happy with the quality of picture, but I couldn't FF or RW :(
