I am a college student interested in cinematography and film sensitometry. I am currently attempting to make my own film (16mm motion picture film). I will use clear leader as a base and will mix various amounts of finely grained silver bromide particles in a gelatin. The problem is I am not sure what to use as a gelatin. I need it to be thin enough to run through a camera and thick enough to stick and not peel. The first films created in the late 19th century used egg whites as a gelatin. However, while they found it to provide great resolution, the film would break down quickly over time. Does anyone have suggestions about alternatives.

A company has already got a gel base. Cachet has several products you might be interested in. You should be able to find Cachet at a good, pro camera store.
