Hey Deano, How's the team?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

I haven't been checking in as much lately so I thought I'd ask for an update. Last I heard you dropped the season opener on a crappy night and then...............????

BTW, try to keep your and Unk's racist asses out of some of these controversies that I see have erupted around here. Just blame Poole or Tarzan and move out of the way!

See Paulie? Now that's how to troll.

Carlos, who's Paulie? And I really do want to know how his team is doing. I just had to throw in the last because the first thing I see when I check in is a thread debating Unk's sexual fantasies.

JBT

Thanks for askin'! We've managed to win the next 3 and are now tied for 1st. We play them (Reds)next Monday.

After dropping the 1st one to the Pirates 6-5, we beat the Phillies 13-0, then beat the Braves 7-3 (my boy went the full 6, had 12 K's and a 2-hitter in that one!), and beat the Dodgers the other night 17- 1. We're currently on Spring Break this week - no games.

The kids are really starting to look good!!

Reckon' I'll have to start postin' weekly box scores!

Racist??? Me??? Far from it my friend. I'm color blind when it comes to that stuff. I just like the flag.

Deano:

Just wanted to let you know that those kids will remember you for the rest of their lives.

SO coached his son's team for many years in a little neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Last summer, he was out front mowing the grass. We live at the end of a little street that goes nowhere in a little neighborhood in an obscure town here in Texas. A car went by, slowed down, but turned the corner. A few minutes later, the car came back, stopped, and a man came out saying, "Mr. C.? Is that you?" SO stopped the lawn-mower, looked at the man and said, "Tommy?" Tommy said, "I thought that looked like you, and I had to come by again to make sure." They stood out there talking for about 20 minutes about the old neighborhood, the team, and how all those [now] men he coached really appreciated him.

In January of this year, SO got a contract in D.C. He decided to stop and visit a few old friends on the way. One lives in Atlanta and the other in (maybe) Maryland. He stopped for the night someplace on the East Coast on the way from Atlanta to Maryland. He was going toward a restaurant when a man on the street said, "Mr. C.?" "Bobby?" The same thing happened. The man went on and on about how instrumental he was in helping the kids stay out of trouble, learn teamwork, etc. SO really couldn't believe he'd run into not one but TWO of these kids in less than a year's time, SO many years afterward.

I'm sure you coach because you love it. SO sure did. The kids, however, see so much more in it.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), March 21, 2001.

Anita

I remember all my childhood coaches and run into some of them every once in a while. We had a few championship teams back then and it's nice to remember 'the glory days' with the ol' coach. Hopefully I'm still around in 20 years to experience it!

I do it for a number of reasons. I love the game of baseball, it's just FUN to get out there and run around like a 12 year old (hell, I'm still 12 at heart!!). It's also nice to be making a difference in kids' lives too. We've got a great association at Jax Beach with a lot of good, giving folk and the result is a bunch of good kids (good ballplayers too!).

Thanks Anita!

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), March 21, 2001.

Deano:

That man on the East Coast jotted down SO's E-mail address and this weekend he's driving SO up to Maryland [maybe] to visit that old friend [son of whom was ALSO on the team and lives in the same town.] It really IS a small world when folks can get together after 15-20 years for little reunions like this. Yep...love of baseball started it all.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), March 23, 2001.

Another heartbreaker!!!!

Leading 7-5 in the bottom of the 6th last night (that's the last inning in Little League), we give up 2 runs and let the Mets tie it up. Did I mention we walked the 1st 4 batters and then wild-pitched the tying run home?????? 8:00 games are only allowed 1 extra inning if it's late (and it was COLD too!). 7-7 final and now a 3-1-1 record.

Tomorrow's game with the Reds is now a 'must win' if we have any hopes of taking the 1st half title (and we definitely do!).

Bummer.....

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), March 27, 2001.

Wow! 12 year olds are very puzzling. One night we can stink the ballfield up (kind of), and the next we coulda whooped the NY Yankees ;-).

Giants 11 - Reds 5. 4-1-1 and looking forward to a rematch with the Pirates next Wednesday.

The young men turned 2 (count'em TWO!!) real-live double-plays last night!! The first from short to 2nd to 1st and the other from 2nd to short to 1st. Just as pretty as you please!!

We turned some heads last night!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), March 29, 2001.

We haven't started practice yet so I need a baseball fix. How are you guys doing?

BTW, I think the box score thing would be a good idea. See, you can tell I've got the fever bad when I want box scores for Little League games played half the country away.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), April 05, 2001.

Well, the Giants exacted revenge on the Pirates 13-2 in a mercy run shortened game last night. The kids came out with the BIG BATS! Definitely one of our better efforts all the way around. Only had one error and we must've had 15 hits, every kid in the lineup put the bat on the ball. Pitching was great!! Gave up 1 hit, had 9 K's and 3 walks.

5-1-1 and waiting on Monday and the Phillies.

We're lookin' better'n'better every time we take the field. I love this game!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 05, 2001.

Giants 19 - Phillies 0

It was THAT ugly too. We're up 9-0 in the 4th with 2 outs and score 10 more before the end of the inning. The sand gnats were about to drive everyone nuts!! Damn, those things are tenacious little buggars!! Not much else to say about this one......although one of our kids did knock 2 of'em outa the yard.

Big game with the Braves coming up Friday night.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 10, 2001.

Congratulations Deano. I guess you are in first place by yourself now. How many games in the season and if you win it all do you get to coach the all-star team?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), April 11, 2001.

JBT

Not exactly. We've got that durn tie with the Mets that we'll be replaying on 4/22. We've got the Braves Friday who are 5-2 (we're 5- 1-1 so I guess we're 1/2 game in front and we put one of those losses on them). Altogether we play 18, split into 2 halves. With 7 teams (we had 12 teams last year!), it works out where you play 3 teams twice in one half and once in the second half and vice versa.

The feller that coaches the Braves runs the league and he's made it pretty clear that he'll be running the show this summer. I know why - we've got some serious talent at the 12 year old level this year and should make a run for State. I'm pretty sure I'll be assisting in some manner regardless of how the Giants finish the regular season.

But yeah, normally the coach that takes the regular season has the honor of heading up the summer travel team.

When do yall start?? Soon I'm guessing, it's gonna be close to 90 here today.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 11, 2001.

Correction!

We're 6-1-1 and the Braves are 6-2.

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 11, 2001.

Deano,

Practice started last Sunday. My son has been drafted to the Dodgers in the Babe Ruth 13-15 League. Man is it tough starting all over as a rookie again. I am going to help out this year while I adjust from Little League to Babe Ruth rules. If it works out I may get to manage the team next year.

I can tell it has been a long winter. I was hitting gounders for about twenty minutes the other night and the next day I thought my arm was going to fall off! The forty something coaches need spring training more than the kids.

Hey, why are you posting today? I thought you had a wild long weekend palnned with the Mrs. Or was that last weeek?

When I have more time I will post the results of my Florida trip for you and Unk. Mainly about the boost your local ecomomy received. I am quite taken with palm trees thoug. Now, how do I get them to grow in Iowa?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), April 13, 2001.

JBT

LOL!! The 1st days of practice are always tough on the old folks!! It's taking longer and longer to recover from them too! Glad to hear yall have taken the field.

That was last weekend. Me and the missus and a few friends took a long weekend down to Flagler Beach (Just a tad south of St Augustine). My 1st coat of sun is itching like crazy as I type!! Fishing was decent. Weather was PERFECT! Beer was ICE COLD!

Growing palms in Iowa?? I think your best bet would be INDOORS.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 13, 2001.

After being down 4-2 at the end of the 1st inning, the Giants made a strong statement to the rest of the league Friday night, shutting down the Braves in a 15-4 mercy run game.

And there were some fireworks!! The ump reverses a call at 1st base in our favor and the Brave's coach (who is President of the league) ends up getting thrown out of the game. He says, "If you're gonna throw me out, do it right!! Throw me out like a man!". Unbelievable......

Unfortunately, one of our starting pitchers took one off the elbow (his throwing arm) while batting and had to be taken to the hospital for xrays. No broken bones, but no baseball for a couple weeks either. Deep contusion.

That's 3 mercy run games in a row. The boys are starting to dominate!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 16, 2001.

Deano,

I missed Sports Center last night. How did you do?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), April 19, 2001.

JBT

LOL!! Too bad, we were the lead story on the 11:00 edition!! ;-)

Giants 16 - Dodgers 5.

We scored 7 in the bottom of the 5th and it ended right there. We threw our 2 eleven year olds at'em and they did awesome!! We've got 3 tough ones coming up in a row and we're trying to save our pitching.

Sunday is the biggie. We win it and we take the 1st half.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 19, 2001.

Geez,

Your boys are rolling all over the league! Are the other coaches getting a little surly about the way you are manhandling the other teams? I still can't believe that if you win the title you aren't the manager for the all-star team. Seems to be kind of a rip to me that your president stakes out claim to that job.

You must be feeling pretty good if you can throw eleven year olds and save your studs for for the tougher games. Making the decisions on how you use pitching innings under little league rules was my least favorite part of managing. Especially late in the season when you had to schedule rainouts in. An abudance of good pitching is a blessing. Good defense doesn't hurt either. As I always said walks and errors, walks and errors, they will killl you.

I do hestitate to say this to you but what the hell. You do realize don't you that if you win out the rest of the season that the one loss will stick in your craw forever. For some reason that undefeated season is special. My ASA team went 15-1 in the 1999 season. The only loss was in the second game of the season by a score of 5-4. There were two base ump calls that cost me runners that would have scored if the correct call had been made. The umpire was state certified and did high school varsity games and J.V. games. I would have felt better about it if it had been some parent out there that made the calls. The other manager even agreed that my team had gotten screwed on the calls. I wasn't too happy at the time of the loss but after we won the next 14 games it really bugged me.

After the season was over I was talking to the guy who had managed the Little League All-star baseball team that year. The team won the state championship and played in the midwest regional in Indianapolis. They started off pool play 2-0 and everyone started thinking regional championship and world series. Then their ace pitcher went down and they didn't make it out of pool play. Still all in all a very succesful run and probably the best showing our little town has ever had in Little League tournament play. The manager retired after the season after managing 20+ years in the majors.

Any way I was congratulating him on his fine job and what fun it must of been espesially since it was his last year of managing. He congratulated me on my team's finish and then he said that even though he was very proud of the all-stars and enjoyed every minute the thing that he would remember the most about all his years was a team that went 18-0 in the regular season several years prior to his great run in the tournament.

My ASA team won the last 14 games of the 1999 season and the first six of the next season. We were 27-3 over the two year period which is not too bad. But I still wish we could have that one loss back. About half the time when I see the manager of the team that beat us that year I start out by saying "I really hate so and so (the umpire with the bad calls)" and he just starts laughing at me.

Oh well. Sorry this is so long but I am going nuts waiting for the baseball season to start. At least I can rehash past seasons. Season opener is next Friday, Dodgers vs. Pirates 8:30 CDT.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), April 20, 2001.

JBT

All good things must come to an end my friend. Mets took us Friday night 4-3 in a great lil' ballgame. That one hurt, but it only means we start the 2nd half 0-1. We left our bats at home.......BIGTIME!

Then it got worse.......

Mets took us again yesterday afternoon 6-5 and now there's a 3-way tie for the 1st half. My boy gave up a 3-run moon shot that pretty much did us in. Mets, Braves and Giants all at 7-2. Since we've all beaten each other once, we all get to play next Sunday. We lost the draw (I've definitely had better weekends!!) and now have to play the Braves, with the winner taking on the Mets right after it for the 1st half title.

I ain't too worried about the all-star thing. Yeah, I'd like to coach them, but I've done it before and it ain't all it's cracked up to be. Cross-town meetings, setting tourney schedules, dealing with parents who have a stud kid that has to ride the bench every other inning, etc...... I'll be a part of it and that's fine by me.

Gotta get back on the winning track tonight against the Reds (who are 2-0 to start the 2nd half).

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 23, 2001.

Suffice it to say "the fun is over". Reds 13 - Giants 12. We go from 4 mercy run wins to 3, 1 run losses in a row. Couldn't get the ball over the plate last night for anything. Walked in 5 runs in the 3rd. I had a feeling our pitching would catch up with us during this run.

We did make it exciting though, down 13-5 in the 5th we put 7 across the plate.

We're off till Sunday and we need it........

Dadgummit!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 24, 2001.

Wow! We took both of'em. 1st half CHAMPS!

Game 1 - Giants 2 - Braves 1 in 7 innings. One of the best Little League games I've ever witnessed. Great pitching, great defense on both sides.

Game 2 - Giants 8 - Mets 5. Yes, we finally beat the Mets!! One of our stud 11 yr olds knocked a 3 run shot outa the yard in deep center.

Good thing we've made the playoffs since we started the 2nd half 0- 2. God I love this game!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), April 30, 2001.

Last night - Giants 6 - Pirates 4

Not much to say about this one other than the Pirates came to play and the Giants are in need of a break. We've played 7 games in the last 11 days (that's a lot for a bunch of kids, especially with the pitching limits!). We're back on the winning track, so I reckon that's a good thing.

We're off till Friday.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 01, 2001.

Deano,

I have been following your season, just haven't had a lot of time to post.

My schedule for the last ten days or so.

Thursday, April 26 - daughter's track meet 100 miles away Friday, April 27 - son's season opener (win 14-7) ugly but a win Saturday, April 28 - daughter - doubleheader for ASA softball (lost 2) Sunday, April 29 - daughter - doubleheader for ASA softbal (1-1) both days the games were in a tournament 60 miles away Monday, April 30 - son track meet at home (thank god) Tuesday, May 1 - daughter's track meet at home (blessed with no travel two days straight, yippee) Wednesday, May 2 - daughter scholarship award from governor of state (travel to Des Moines, round trip 225 miles, so much for no travel but it did result in cash!) Thursday, May 3 - daughter track meet away Friday, May 4 - son's ball game (rain out, but I did get the lawn mowed) Saturday, May 5 - son track meet (Sr. high-Jr. high combined aalllll day long)

The week before this run started we were on a fairly normal schedule of four track meets a week plus squeezing in an occasional practice. Oh yeah, we also managed to fit the Jr'Sr prom in there too. With ball games starting up and the track season winding down it is just sheer confusion around here. You need a program just to know where you are supposed to be on which night! My daughter is a senior this year so we have a lot of other activities to plan along with our normal spring sports schedule.

Speaking of my daughter I just have to braf here a minute. My little girl is capping a very successful high school career this spring. She has been involved in volleyball, track, softball since 7th grade. She has also been in marching band, concert band and jazz band (a trumpeter). She is currently the senior class Treasurer. Vice- President of the National Honor Society carries a 4.0 GPA, scored a 36 on the ACT test a 1540 on the SAT test, won a presidential scholarship to a state university, was named a State of owa Scholar and was just awarded a National Merit Scholarship to boot. She plans to study biology next year and go on to medical school. We are sooooo proud of her! We will miss her very much.

Enough about us how did you do last night?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 05, 2001.

Good God Man!!! I thought I was a busy man. Trust me on this one, YOU TAKE THE CAKE JBT!! I've often thought of getting Bryan involved in the serious travel ball. Ya know, about a 90-100 game schedule. I just don't know if *I* could handle it. THAT is a serious commitment.

How did we do?? Struggled to a 9-5 victory over the Phillies. We had 10 runned them twice before but they came to play Friday night. They jumped up 3-0 after 2, then we clawed our way back into it. Only 4 regular season games left and 3 of them will be tough.

We play Wed and Fri this week.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 07, 2001.

Another classic Little League game.

Giants 6 - Braves 5. GREAT GAME!! My son went yard to the opposite field, a 3-run shot. Comes up to the plate with the bases loaded a couple innings later and drills one up the middle for a double and 2 more rbi's. It was his night fer sure - held'em to 4 hits and struck out 9.

Is there a more proud Dad than I on the planet this morning?? I don't see how.....

If any of you are ever given the chance to get your kid involved in LL baseball or girl's softball, do not hesitate to get them on the field. Trust me, it's a blast for everyone!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 10, 2001.

Deano: My girls both played softball and enjoyed it. My son did ONE year of little league. He was one of those kids you see out on the field who gets so bored waiting for the ball that he spots an ant carrying a HUGE piece of something through the grass and while he's looking at the ant, the ball FINALLY comes his way. He sucked at it, and he knew it. He just wasn't interested in sports. He did better at soccer. There was more action there, so it wasn't so easy for him to get distracted, but even that he gave up after about 4 years. One of the girls stayed in soccer much longer.

JBT: Your daughter has every reason to be proud. Those are REAL accomplishments. I thought my son did well with a 32 on the ACT. I would have fallen over at a 36. I just heard today, BTW, after waiting MONTHS for an answer to one question that American students must attend University for a full year before being accepted at the University of Bergen [even in their initial language program.] I must tell him this news today, and I don't at all look forward to that. I'd warned him about this line I'd read, but neither of us thought it could really be true.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), May 10, 2001.

Friday night - Giants 13 - Dodgers 2

Actually a pretty good game until we pulled away in the 4th. Got the Mets tonight and the Reds on Wed and that's the end of the regular season. The Reds have clinched the 2nd half already so we'll take them on in a best-of-3 series sometime next week.

Hard to believe the spring session is almost over......

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 14, 2001.

Last night - Giants 13 - Mets 4

That was fun!!! Everybody hits!! Looking real good on the stretch to the playoffs.

Bad news is I miss the last game of the regular season tomorrow night. The good news is I will be down in Unks neighborhood thru Saturday! I understand there's a billfish down there with my name on it (which would be a 1st!).

Playoffs start next Tuesday (I think).

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 15, 2001.

Deano,

Well we've gotten four games in and had two rain outs. Record is 3- 1, and everyone in the league has at least one loss.

Track season is over, thank god, so now we concentrate on baseball and softball. We play Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. We really, really need to find a third and fourth pitcher. Why don't you loan us one?

Sorry I haven't responded lately but between games, rain and lawn mowing I haven't had much time. The few times I have checked in the tenor of some of the new posters has depressed me too much to even want to post. Things sure can change in a hurry.

I will be watching to see how the stretch run goes for the Giants. I will try to update the Dodgers progress when I can.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 15, 2001.

JBT

3-1 and on the winning track, that's a good thing! Congrats! I wish I had a pitcher to spare.......

We took the Reds last Wednesday 8-2 to finish the 2nd half 7-2, but the Reds finished 8-1. Now we play them Tue, Thur and Fri (if needed) in a best of 3 series. Summer travel ball will start next week when the playoffs are finished. That's when it gets serious.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 21, 2001.

Deano,

Had a great stretch last week playing the Braves on Friday (won 7-3) and a doubleheader on Saturday. First game Saturday we beat the Mariners 8-7 (they also had only one loss) and trounced the pirates 11-1 in a game shortened by the mercy rule. The bats finally came to life Saturday banging out 10 hits on the first game and 11 in the nightcap.

Feels good being in first but we play the Red Sox Wednesday, tied with us in the loss column, and the Orioles on Saturday, one game back the loss column. The Red Sox gave us our only loss of the year in a week where we played them on a Saturday for our third game of the week. We had used up our pitching innings of our number one and two guys that week so the rematch should be something.

At 6-1 this week could put us out in front or really muddy the race. Good luck on your series with the Reds!

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 22, 2001.

Definitely a good start on the season JBT. With luck, they'll keep it up.

The Giants, on the other hand, (how can I put this without putting my fist through the screen?) blew a 7 run lead with 1 out to go in the bottom of the 6th last night in game #1. That's right, we're up 9-2 with 2 outs and proceed to give up 8 runs and lose 10-9. I'm still in a slight state of shock and have been in a nasty lil' funk all day.

I hate to say this, but the umpiring (balls & strikes) was so bad the opposing coach called the head umpire to request that SOB never grace our fields with his presense again. This was from the guy who won so that oughta give you an idea of just how bad this cat was. Extremely inconsistent strike zone. Bryan was ahead in the count 0-2 on 6 batters in a row in that last inning and they all walked. I still haven't figured out why we didn't pull him......

We lost the City Championship last year 1-0 on a passed ball in the 4th inning and it didn't feel half as bad as this one......

Oh well, gotta regroup 'cause we got'em again tomorrow night in a must win game.

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 23, 2001.

Deano,

I feel your pain. Man a seven run lead. Two outs in the bottom of the 6th. Just shoot yourself and end your misery.

We lost 4-1 last night. Kind of took the wind out our sails.

As the game ended we got into one of those rules arguements that noone wins. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hope you did better tonight.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 25, 2001.

Well JBT,

It ain't over just yet. 3 of our 1st 6 batters knocked it out of the park in the bottom of the 1st inning last night. It was, to say the least, unbelievable. The Reds did make a game of it as it was only a 6-3 ballgame going into the 5th. However, the bottom of the 5th was all ours as 7 runs crossed the plate (thanks to a 3 run moon shot for Ray's 2nd bomb of the day) and the game ended right there 13-3.

6:00 tonight for all the marbles. My freakin' stomach is in knots!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 25, 2001.

You do realize that we take this stuff way too seriously, don't you?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 25, 2001.

JBT

Not the first time I've been accused of that. LOL!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), May 25, 2001.

Well Deano, by now you've either blown your brains out because you lost and brooding about blowing a seven run lead in the first game finally got to you OR you won and bypassed any update with a celebration which is still going on OR you are just too numb from all the ups and downs and are unable to put the nights events into a coherent sentence structure.

Let me know how it came out when you are able to communicate again. Or at least I hope your wife posts the obituary notice if the first option has occurred.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 26, 2001.

Alas, poor Deano, I knew him well. Must have been option A.

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), May 26, 2001.

My good friend JBT,

Let's not give up hope just yet......

Giants 16 - Reds 1 (really and truly!!)

It was a 1-1 ballgame going into the 3rd and then we blew it wide open.

We haven't 15 run'd anyone all year (Mercy Run - FL Major/Minor Little League is 10 after 5 and 15 afer 4) and here we did it in the title game!!).

They came out hot, bases loaded, no outs and 1 run in (top of the 1st), line drive to 3rd base and Sean doubles'em up right there. After that, it was ALL GIANTS!!! Big Ray (this kid is 6'0" 185 lbs and he won't be 12 until July!!) hit 2 more out, the last a 3-run shot WAY into the parking lot! Bryan pitched an awesome game. 11 Ks, 3bbs, 2 hits.... It's one of those nights you live for.....

Please remember, all the kids jaw at each other all day at school. There were some tears, but no one's feelings were hurt and a lot of'em will be playin' Summer All-Star travel ball anyway (starting next week).

Cool season....

Another really neat thing about this JBBA (Jax Beach Baseball Association) is they have a closing ceremony where ALL the kids come out (next Saturday, 6/2)and everyone gets a trophy. There's like a thousand folks at this thing!
