SOME 242 passengers on board an Aer Lingus flight from Newark, New Jersey endured a scare yesterday as their airbus was landed amid misplaced fears the brakes had jammed.

A full emergency plan was put into operation at Shannon Airport after the flight captain informed traffic control that a light indicating the brakes were jammed had ignited on approach to Shannon.

Cabin crew were briefed of the threat and in turn informed passengers and prepared them for an emergency landing.

The flight - EI 106 - circled around Ennis for half an hour before the captain made a perfectly safe landing.

Checks later on the flight confirmed the fault was electrical and solely with the indicator light for the brakes.
