BP-50 Battery Pack cause problem on the battery level indicator

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I purchased a BP-50 Battery Pack for my Elan II recently. The battery level indicator sometimes showing half empty even I placed in 4 band new Alkaline batteries. If I put the 2CR5 battery back then everything works fine (without BP-50).

Anyone have the same experence???

I don't remember if mine showed half empty with alkalines or not, but they don't last as long as the 2CR5. Did you try the 2CR5 in the BP- 50? That is how I use mine. It is nice to have the BP-50 since it can use AA batteries, but I mainly use it to improve the handling of the camera. AA alkalines are heavier than the 2CR5, and probably don't cost any less by the time you use enough of them to equal the life of 1 2CR5. The option to use the AA batteries is really only important if your lithium battery goes dead and you can't find a replacement.

I use rechargable batteries in mine, both NiCads and NiMH. Both have a lower voltage than fresh Alkalines and I've never seen any problems with the battery condition indicator. It indicates full for maybe 5-10 rolls. Since I usually recharge after a shoot, I don't know what the capacity of the rechargables is.

Rechargables work out much cheaper (and are more environmentally friendly) than disposable alkalines or lithiums.
