I had a dog/cat in mind as I wrote that and although I don't have an animal pet at the moment, my human partner fits the above description really well :)

It was a toss up between a cat and a dog. The dog won because of its unwavering loyalty and love. The cat ? Its absolute spirit of independence.

Well, to follow through on your entry, I would have to say that it would be pretty cool to have Lockjaw, the Inhumans' dog. No one would mess with you, and you could go anywhere you wanted. That would be nice.

I think that the ideal pet would be one of Anne McCaffrey's dragons, whom you have a psychic link to and a lifetime bond to. Humans usually go insane if their dragon is killed, and dragons commit suicide when they lose their human. But if that is not available, cats are great and convienent for the busy dual-income family like mine.

AJ, I so completely have to agree with you. I have always wished I could hop into Anne McCaffrey's world -- just long enough to impress a dragon! However, since that doesn't seem very likely [while I'm awake, anyway], I think I would have to settle for a Boxer. They're my absolute favorite breed of dog: goofy, tough, protective, puppyish forever and ever.

Hey ... that's kind of like my boyfriend, actually. I guess that's a good thing, since we're both allergic to dogs!
