Buying A Boeing Plane Will Cost 5.72% More March 14, 2001 By KOMO Staff & News Services

SEATTLE - Some airlines might be feeling a little bit of sticker shock soon.

Boeing says they have increased its list prices for jetliners by 5.72 percent for 2001, compared to a normal yearly increase of about 3 percent. They say rising energy costs are largely to blame.

Airbus Industrie, a European consortium that is Boeing's chief competitor, also raised its prices by between 5 percent and 5.5 percent this year.

A company spokesman said the increase was due to a number of factors, including higher energy prices and inflation.

With this year's pricing, Boeing also announced that its jumbo 747-400 is no longer the company's most expensive jetliner. That honor now goes to the 777-300ER.

That longer-range airplane seats about 365 people in a typical three-class configuration, while the 747 carries 416, according to Boeing.

The airplane is listed at $201.5 million to $231.5 million, depending on configuration, compared to $194 million to $215 million for the most expensive 747, the 747-400 Combi.

The prices, which are usually far higher than what airlines pay in final negotiations, are expected to take effect toward the end of the year
