Can I play a VCD in my computer's DVD drive?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

My friend just gave me a .ova file on a cd-r disc, and I have a dvd-rom on my pc, but it just won't read the disc. Are there any programs to download or anything I can do so I can watch this movie on my computer??

I don't think .ova is even a VCD compatable format. The file should have been a Whitebook compatable .mpg burned onto a CD using any kind of VCD burning software. And, yes. To view a VCD on your computer you do need special software (unless of course u r using WinDVD or PowerDVD, both of which have VCD support). Try, I-On Video CD Player. It's free :) U could probably find it easily by searching.
