Why is it that calcium carbonate minerals tend to accumulate in shallow waters?

calcium carbonate often originates from the exosceletans of marine animals, such as shells and corals. these marine animals need the shallow water to survive because the water is warmer, less muddy (sunlight is important), and it is safer for the organisms to live there(less predators).
