Country Poem I wrote myself

Since the subject of country poetry came up I thought I would share the poem I wrote this past Christmas to give to my best friend. It summarizes the things we did together in that year. Just thought you all might get a kick out of it.

A Country Friend By Colleen Lanza

A country friend is different than a city friend, you know. A country friend is down to earth, a city, all for show.

A country friend will help you out when there’s work needing to be done. A city friend is only there when the things to do are fun.

A country friend will loan you Anything she owns. To help you get your work done With lots less sweat and groans.

Like picking up those fallen leaves And chopping them up well. To spread them out upon your land To add them when you till.

She’ll go right with you when you ask To pick berries from a farm. And make jam until it fills the room With jars bright red and warm.

A country friend will go with you To farmers’ market or a stand And will offer up her kitchen As the place for you to can.

She’ll buy a special gadget To help you quickly can Tomatoes you have spent your time Growing on your land

Those bushels full of sweet, sweet corn She’ll help you shuck and clean And put them in the freezer For when times get kind of lean.

She’ll share with you the skills she’s learned Like making up a quilt And gives her time to teach you Without making you feel guilt.

A country friend by all accounts Is something truly grand. I hope I never lose the one I call my country friend
