Nibbles maybe barker no .They are suppose to be silent workers .It has to be some thing that wont look funny in a show book if I decide to trial her .

Speck, Specks, or Specky -and Barker is only half a name, ours is Bob, Bob Barker of course...

We recently lost a dog we got at the end of 99 as a puppy - named her Millennium and called her Millie. Great dog, she died of a hemmorage during pregnancy. We also have a female Airedale named Nutmeg; our first Airedale was Hannah (her mother was Rhapsody - "rhody" and Father was Virtuoso - "Virty"). We named her right before the name Hannah became popular again for girls - we had wanted a nice, old-fashioned name most PEOPLE didn't share! Oh well....

I do like British names - if we ever have a male Airedale, I was him to be named Hudson or Winston. I always can come up with male names much faster than females.

Jet?

I attended a sheep herding demonstration and one of the man's dogs was named Jet. She was very fast of course, and low and streamlined, but the best part was the carrying power of the name when he'd yell it. A hard, short sound, with consonants on both ends makes it harder to get lost on the wind.

We have the same dog, your description could have been Neutka 12 years ago! She is named after a killer whale. Or, you could have a canine version of Xena Warrior Princess?

How bout Sooner. sooner or later she is going to Pee on the floor!

-- Mark in NC Fla (deadgoatman@webtv.net), March 10, 2001.

My vote is Rose.

Usually names for any herding dogs are one syllable and not similar to any commands you might use, or to any other dogs in your family. I picked our dogs names from some of their ancesters on the extended pedigree. " Fly", "Ben", "Lass", "Moss" "Kate". "Jake", and "Sam". We didn't have all of these at the same time. My friends named their red Border Collie, Jade.

-- Kate henderson (kate@sheepyvalley.com), March 10, 2001.

Hi Patty, we named our two pups Jed and Ellie. Guess that makes me granny! Our other dog is named Al, we were coming up the drive and heard the Paul Simon song "you can call me Al" and it stuck. How about Lucy (redhead), Gertie, Zelda?

-- snoozy (allen@oz.net), March 10, 2001.

'Breck' it means: one having feckles. 'Flannery' means;one with red head. "Kassidy' means: clever or curly haired.

In my experience, the name of a pet sort of comes natural. After you've been with doggy a little, the right name will come to mind. It is the same with my cats. Last summer I picked up a kitten when mommy brought her litter up to the house the first time and said that he was such a brat! Well, Brat is sleeping on my bed with his older adopted brother Tippy as I type. Give it a few days...the name will come.

-- debra in nm (dhaden@nmtr.unm.edu), March 14, 2001.

An australian dog should have an australian name, Sheila is obvious and already been mentioned. You could try Kylie, Olivia, Elle and Nicole are names of famous australian women. Then of course there is Edna, after Dame Edna Everidge perhaps the most most famous austrailan woman of all!

-- john hill (john@cnd.co.nz), March 14, 2001.

Dot?

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), March 14, 2001.

Further to my list... As she is 'red speckled' you best go with 'Nicole' hehehe

-- john hill (john@cnd.co.nz), March 14, 2001.

I like Indian names. How about Cheyenne or Montana?

Here are some others Joelle or Joy, or Roullette? Maggie? Bria? Tiara?

Have fun! And take some advice from me be diligent about your training. Or you'll end up with a pest instead of a dog. I know!

-- Tiffani Cappello (cappello@alltel.net), March 14, 2001.

I have a chestnut mare named Tiara Rose.

-- Linda (Tiararose@juno.com), March 17, 2001.

i have 4 dogs, 2 are -- autumn (when we got her-- she is now 18 years old, and mandy (little toy poodle) and our border collie (or as we call them the couch collies) boys mick and jake. our problem naming things is goats! we just got 3 week old goats, 2 does and a buck. the buck is chocolate brown and we are thinking of naming him fudge. for the does we are considering maple (she is the color of maple sugar) and milly (for the millienum spelling is wrong on that). any way good luck with the names!!

-- Mary R. (cntryfolk@ime.net), March 17, 2001.

I think that Milly would be an appropriate name for a herding dog...that or Annie. :)

-- Sara F. (all4craziness@yahoo.com), May 22, 2001.

Patty
