Paint of IC passenger cars

Re: the Illinois Central painted passenger cars that were used by the ACL and SAL - were the roofs black or brown? The pictures that I have aren't much help.

IC standard paint specs wrap the Chocolate Brown over the top of the car, Jim. I would think that the ACL paint job was the same.

Now, after several thousand miles they probably ended up black with all the exhaust soot.
