Freight Elevator Challenge : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

Elevator is a Dover, 1962, hydr., 100 FPM, 15000 rated, class A. Biparting doors are powered. Inside gate fell on passenger while boarding car. What may have malfunctioned?

this does not sound like a passenger car. They should not have been riding it unless putting freight on it or taking it off.

Thanks for the reply bubbles. This was a freight elevator approved for use by cargo and passengers at a post office distribution center.

Some thoughts

If the gate was also motor driven it uses two heavy chains from gate to counterweight. The chances of both breaking at the same time and causing the gate to fall are remote. If one chain breaks I've always found that the gate will rack and become jammed in the guides almost instantly. Could someone have been pushing the door close button and the reversing edge didn't work. That's assuming it even had one due to it's age. Kinda hard to determine without more info. Good luck.

zone switch

If the chains did not break, I have seen a door zone switch make up on another floor and if you pushed the door close button on that floor, the doors would close on what ever floor the elevator is on.
