torque wrench question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm working on an engine that the head bolts require 90 inch pounds of torque. My wrench is in foot pounds. How do you convert foot pounds to inch pounds? Do you divide by 12? Thanks for the help,I would hate to over tighten the bolts and warp the head. Daryl

A foot lb torque wrench is not calibrated to do something so small. If this is something rare or expensive.....go buy an inch lb torque wrench.

Torque wrenchs are those items that are used little in comparison to other tools, but still needed at times.

You might think about buying one from a pawn shop, as they are nearly given away compared to a new purchase.

Hi,thanks for the information, the engine is a 6 hp tecumseh on a Troy- bilt roto tiller,my torque wrench is ajustable to half foot pounds,so I don't think it will be problem. It is running like a top now, thanks again,Daryl
