Looking for healthy food in the (Colorado) Springs (which sells organic meat)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My husband and I will be moving back to the Colorado Springs area soon, and I am in search of a meat packing house that sells to individuals. I would prefer a source of organically raised meat: beef, chicken, pork, etc. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Response to Looking for healthy food in the Springs

Hi, Phyllis. I live about 30 miles east of the Springs, and did live in the city for a while. Still have son and daughter in law living there. E mail me directly with more info as to what you need, and I'll be glad to help. Jan

Oh, how I envy you the health food stores you have in Colo. Springs! We lived there for 3 years and I was in love with them. One is Mountain Mama on Uinta, across from King Sooper. I don't remember if they have meat, but they have everything else. Up on Academy is Wild Oats, a full, service organic grocery store. They sell organically grown meat, in addition to produce, baked goods, and an extensive supplement section and book section. Love those places! Of course, I've been gone 2 years, so they may have changed and others may have opened. There is also a great little restaraunt in Manitou Springs that you might like..Adams Mountain Cafe. Hard to get in during tourist season, but worth the wait. Oh, and back to the meat, the Lassiter Ranch, east of town out on the prarie grows organic beef. They sell to the larger outlets in Denver and C.S. They have never had any sort of chemicals on the ranch, ever.

I'm on a roll now, forgot something you may want to know. In the summertime, those fleeting 3 months flanked by winter, the city sponsors wonderful farmers markets every week. The best ones are at Acacia Park downtown on Monday mornings, and at Bancroft Part in old Colorado City (west Colo. Ave) on Saturday mornings. Produce, crafts, music, honey, fresh cut and potted herbs and flowers, it's wonderful, great family atmosphere. And remember, Colo. has four seasons, June, July, August, and winter.
