Making grapeseed extract @ home

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have saved all my grapeseeds from Making jelly and juice. They are uncooked and frozen. Does any know exactly how to prepare them for use as a health supplement? I did not know if some of the chemicals in them are harmfull and need removing. I am looking for a supplement similar to that found in healthfood stores. Thanks for your help.

Hi Fredora, most folks agree that what is good for you from the grapes is their skins, that's where all the antioxidants are primarily. The grapeseed extract bought in the health food store is prepared in a way that the cyanide is removed, something that we would have a hard time doing at home and cyanide in any quantity is definitely not good for you!!!

Enjoy your homemade juice and jelly, but throw the seeds away, I would not even feed them to the chickens although they are tough and hard to poison usually, I would not want the cyanide residue passed on through their eggs.
