Use of Kodak Ortho Film

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I have got hold of some 5x4" Kodak Ortho Film (4163). It develops ok, exceptI can't get detail in the shadows. Is this normal for this type of film?

Is this Tri-X Ortho?

Tri-X Ortho has been discountinued, I think for quite a while. Yours may have lost speed. With ortho, you have to be cognizant of the color of your light source. Ortho doesn't see reds, and is very sensitive to blue & green.

Expose a lot and use a very soft developer.

Thanks for the replies. Could you name a soft developer. Difficult to get anything but Kodak or Ilford products here
