simplicity or montgomery wards two wheeled garden tractors.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi folks.I own a four speed simplicity garden tractor as well as some attachments. These are really neat machines that of course no one makes any more. They are like a david bradley.Perhaps even superior in some respects.(reverse gear)I own the plow, cultivator, disc, snow blade,as well as the sickle bar mower.I'm looking for a source of blades for the mower. They are about half the size of full size tractor sickle bar blades. The size was used on a lot of smaller garden tractor type units not just simplicity. The person I spoke to at simplicity/mtd / whatever the latest buy out is.Just laughed at me and said "They're too old buy a new lawn mower!" So typicaly no help at all.Any ideas? I am also looking to buy the dump cart sulky combination. As well as the generator and buck saw unit.I'm not a collector but rather I use the stuff. The "collectors" have priced me right out of range for a good used tractor. These things only went out of production in the 60s so there should still be some floating around in the barn or garden shed.Anyone have any thing they want to sell? Ken,If this violates any rules against commerce feel free to delete it. Thanks every one! greg

Greg: I don't know if this'll help or not but Gravely makes a walking tractor too and they have siclebar mowers. From what I understand the early ones had sickle knives that were smaller than those available now. You might want to check a Gravely dealer and get the scoop from them. Good luck and you also might wanna look at yesterdaystractors.com Go to the garden tractor forum and ask your question there.

Thanks John I checked yesterdaystractor site awhile back and didn't find much.It is a fantastic site though for a lot of old farm stuff and well worth checking out.Is Gravley still in business?

Yes, Gravely is still in business. The state uses them for highway mowing where the bigger equipment can't get to.

You may also wish to check with a BCS tractor dealer. They still sell and manufacter a sickle bar mower. BCS two wheeled tractors have a good reputation. They are very similar to the old "Mainline" tractors.

Here are some urls for you to explore. http://www.gravely.com/ http://www.bcsshop.com/index.htm http://www.walkerequipment.com/bcs/default.htm www.bcs-america.com

Here is the place you need to go Greg.....

http://www.simpletractors.com/clubhouse/Welcome.asp

This is a club for older Allis Chalmers and Simplicity Garden tractors. I have an older one ...a 1971 535 Serf...a small mower/tractor. Parts are still available as many people collect these. I mostly collect the older Sears tractors....I bought the Serf because it was a good deal. Post a message on their forum and see if you get some leads.

Greg,

I found this on Ebay!......maybe it's like yours. If not and you don't have a manual at all, it might help anyway.
