weed eater powered fourwheeled racers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

using a fair amont of weed eater motors, the team could design a fourwheeled racer that would be a challenge to build (due to the size of the motors)and be a fun race as the next days's activity. one team member would start on the 4wheeler. it would be a sort of relay. one person after another would go around the track and as the last one finishes, that person would race by and tap a bell and that would be the winner.

I've often thought about that. Some of those weed eaters are pretty powerful and have a solid driveshaft, especially if they have a sawblade/brushcutter option. :) Historical tidbit: the inventor of the original "weed eater" was denied a US patent because it was "too obvious". If it was so bloody obvious to combine a tiny gas engine, a bit of heavy duty speedometer cable, some aluminum tubing and a spool of heavy duty monofilament fishing line, why weren't they being hacked together by hundreds of people all over the place?
