greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

My home was repossessed well over 6 years ago due to messy divorce where exhusband refused to sign sale papers. House was sold by B&B for less than it was worth. Have recently received first communication since then from Hammond Suddards Edge. However the address they are quoting is wrong. Have denied ever living at this address but they are threatening court action unless I prove where I was living. Obviously I am not willing to do this, just for them to change their records. They are demanding shortfall of nearly £10K. I am currently unemployed but hope to become self-employed. Have a new mortgage with new partner which I believe to be under threat if I admit to anything. Unfortunately, threw all documentation away two years ago because I thought it was over and done with. Have tried to read through all info on this site but find it very confusing. Can anyone give me straightforward advice? Thanks Dawn

Really sorry to hear about your troubles. Believe me, this site might seem confusing at first but it will become invaluable to you.

The best advice really is 'don't panic' - take a few hours to read through the site. Start by clicking on repossession under the options, and following the do's and don'ts.

The main thing to remember is that your chasers have to prove their claim to you, you don't actually have to prove anything to them. They will threaten you with all sorts but if they could simply go to court they probably would have done it by now. So take a deep breath, and hang in there.

If you need to ask questions - there are plenty of really helpful people that use this site.
