Feel like I'm hiting a brick wall

Hi:

I'm a manager and have been for years. I work in the telecommunications industry now, I'm a program manager. My company operates as an outsourcer and process improvement specialist.

I love management, but feel that it is not recognized as a real talent. The recognition goes to the more technically astute folks. I do not want to become a technician, I know myself well enough to know that it would be a disaster. However, I love to work with technically minded folks. I spent years working with engineers and financial folks earlier in my career.

So, is there a life for me, I want to feel that I'm continuing to grow, but don't feel that now. I get the sense that I know more about management than most of the people I work with and there is no challenge for me.

Thoughts?
