Walking Machine

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I think an interesting twist would be to build a motorized vehicle that cannot use wheels, but rather must use legs, to travel across the ground. This may sound simple, but walking is really a very complex activity. Issues for a walking machine would be..

- How many legs? - How do you convert the engery from a rotory engine to up-down motion? - How do you coordinate the legs so you move forward? - How do you steer a walking machine?

I doubt the final race would be fast, but I think it would be interesting. Possible experts for this would have backgrounds in kenetics or robotics.

Keith, keep on watching...you should get your wish in about 2 months if they're playing everything in order. Walking machines was done during Season 2 I think...

Thanks, thus far I have only managed to catch the first (UK) and last (US) seasons. I am not surprised that this has been done.
