Upcomming Draft

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Purple : One Thread

Good to see you all! I don't get to post as much as I used to but love to read all the news and thoughts. This is one of my favorite times of the football year, I love the NFL draft, then I hate the 3 months of boredom waiting for camp. One of these years I'm going to make it to Mankato and meet some of you.

Anyways onto the draft, I hope that we have a friendly contest to pick draft choices again.

As far as Viking picks I believe that trading down is our best option if we can pick up a 2,3, and 5 or 6.

I really like some of the 2-4th round tallent. I believe that one defensive stud would not help improve our d as much as 3 players that could contribute.

I am really high on William Peterson from Western Ill. had he stayed out odf trouble at Mich., he might have been the first cb taken. He has been a model person for 2 years and has all the tools to be a great nfl cb. Kinda reminds me of another player we drafted in 98!

Another mock draft contest is a good idea.

I'm a Western illinois grad and would love to see any Leatherneck in Purple! everything I've read has Peterson going in the top 20. if he's there take him, but don't see it as likely!

What are his physical specs ?

The Sporting News lists Peterson as their 6th rated CB.

6'1", 195, 4.45 forty

They project him as a second round pick and think that his history of off the field problems may cause him to slip to the third round.

They also list Samari Rolle of the Titans as his NFL comparison.

On a side note the most recent TSN mock draft has us selecting Ladanian Tomlinson RB TCU with our first round pick and then Willie Middlebrooks CB UMinn with our second round pick. We also picked up a pair of fourth round picks as compenation for last seasons free agent departures.

I think we should identify what position the Vikes will go for with their first pick. In recent past drafts, almost all of the experts said the Vikes will pick a CB and they didn't. I hope Green goes for a CB or DT but who knows, he might go offense.
