What's Up in Space -- 19 Feb 2001 Subscribe to Space Weather News! ASTEROID FLYBY: A ~90m-wide asteroid, 2001 CP36, will zoom past Earth on Feb. 20th just five lunar distances from our planet (there is no danger of a collision). Although the space rock comes close to Earth it is relatively small and so, by definition, it is not a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. Amateur astronomers with 8 inch or larger telescopes and CCD cameras can spot the diminutive asteroid as it brightens to 15th magnitude today and tomorrow. 2001 CP36 is an "Aten" -- it's orbit lies almost entirely inside Earth's.
