canon's new 1.4x and 2x (II) extenders.

Canon has just announced new 1.4x II and 2x II extenders.I want to know whether you know that they replace the previos ones or are sold with them.And also are there anyone who tested these new design cnverters (esp. the new 2xII versus pre 2x).What's your first impressions.Thank you.

They replace the previous versions. They were just introduced at PMA, Orlando so I doubt that they are delivering yet.

The originals work really well so I suspect Canon even bothering to upgrade indicates a major improvement. But we'll have to wait and see.

You might try George Lepp's web site (www.leppphoto.com) if anyone has worked with them it would be him.

Bob Shell also is on Canon's "A" list so look to Shutterbug's PMA issue for more info possibly.

The Canon US site gave the impression that the new TCs might be very similar optically to the old ones, but with better weather sealing (like the new IS telephotos and EOS-1v) and with better scattered light control (which was always pretty good anyway).

The Canon Germany site had a blurb which might be interpreted to indicate the optical design had changed.
