Found site for inexpensive permanent magnet generators (alt energy)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Yesterday by accident I found a site selling really inexpensive Chinese Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet generators its here: http://www.tradezone.com/tradesites/zhao.html

The generators they have are about a third of the price of the ones I've been looking at for my eventual 10KW (nominal) windmill, up until now I'd been planning on buying a 10 KW LEMCO traction motor originally designed for electric vehicles. These will work a lot better and not being a pancake design like the traction motor allows me to slim down the design quite a bit.

This plus a Czech manufacturer of blades at: http://home.worldonline.cz/~cz438514/indexeng.htm have really brought my costs down to under $3000.00 for everything, pretty good for a 10 KW wind genny!

At any rate, I just thought the other tinkerers here would be interested.

Interesting. Let us know how the importing of these products goes.

Look forward to seeing your results. Unlike some of my friends, I think some imports are high quality enough for continuous use.

Here is a technique that is a lot better than any generator and a lot less expensive.

Take an ordinary automotive alternator and connect a pulsing circuit to the field coils. When the coils are charged with a changing current, the alternature acts as if if were turning at a speed porportional to the frequency of the pulse plus the rpm speed of the rotor. With this and a higher voltage, an ordinary 60 amp alternator can produce 10 kw, can be directly coupled to the fan and (with the right controller) produce maximum power at any wind speed (that is, it can be used to control the prop speed withou feathering).

Okay Paul please tell us more, are you offering something for sale? Thanks John

John, if Paul really has this working on a continuous basis he ought to be selling it as it will revolutionize the home power market. Of course, if it is just a paper dream it is not worth much.
