Planned Parenthood Receives Massive Donations in Bush's Name

15,000 Messages Are Set For Delivery to White House Tomorrow WASHINGTON - February 15 - Tens of thousands of Americans have demonstrated their support of reproductive rights to commemorate the Presidents' Day holiday on Feb. 19, by making contributions to Planned Parenthood in the name of President George W. Bush. Planned Parenthood reported today that an estimated $500,000 has been raised and 15,000 individuals have made contributions to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates around the country in response to this campaign -- many are first-time supporters of the organization.

Dozens of volunteers and Planned Parenthood staff in the organization's Washington office are preparing the mail bags stuffed with the personal messages. The mail bags will be hand-delivered by Planned Parenthood to the new Executive Office Building on 17th Street, in Washington, D.C., tomorrow afternoon.

The grassroots mobilization took off on e-mail and various Internet chat sites two weeks ago after Los Angeles Times columnist Patt Morrison suggested in her column that making a donation to Planned Parenthood was a fitting message to send to President George W. Bush on Presidents' Day in response to his reinstating the "global gag rule" and appointing John Ashcroft as U.S. attorney general.

PPFA, the nation's largest reproductive health and rights organization, responded to the overwhelming interest in the campaign circulating over the Internet by setting up a "Planned Parenthood Presidents' Day Message Campaign" on the organization's Web site at www.plannedparenthood.org.

The site allows visitors to simultaneously make a donation to the organization while sending a personal message that will be forwarded to President Bush. Messages posted to date run the gamut from simple statements of support for reproductive rights to tributes from grandmothers who lived through harrowing personal experiences during the years before the fundamental right to choose safe and legal abortion was recognized by the Supreme Court 28 years ago in Roe v. Wade.

Sample messages to the president being returned with contributions:

Dear President Bush:

"You promised to be a uniter rather than a divider. You kept your promise by causing women everywhere to shudder in unison at your plan to dismantle reproductive rights. I hope you will reconsider this plan." -- Dale City, Calif.

"You are the current resident of the White House. Please be aware that you did not win the popular vote. Your position on a woman's right to choose is a primary reason for that fact." -- Louis Park, Minn.

"I'm a college student that always wants the ability to choose what I want for my body without anyone telling me what I can or cannot do. Don't you think that your daughters feel the same way that I do?" -- Washington, D.C.

"We, like millions of other Americans, believe that reproductive rights are important. We understand that you disagree, but we will not support any attempt on your part to stack our Supreme Court with anti-choice justices." -- Tacoma, Wash.

"Mr. Bush, I have contributed to Planned Parenthood as a statement that you do not have the consent of the people of the United States to deny women of the U.S. and the world the right to make our own decisions about our bodies and our beliefs." -- New York, N.Y.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the world's largest and most trusted voluntary family planning organization. It comprises 127 affiliates that operate 875 health centers nationwide, which serve nearly five million Americans annually. For more information on Planned Parenthood, visit

Sorry, but LIFE matters sooo much more than choice. Life is just too precious to throw away with the garbage. I am sorry you feel it is so damn cheap.......

Thats right George. Don't forget who brought you to the dance! It wasn't Satan's pro-choice followers, it was those in the Christian community in favor of the most basic of God given true family values there ever was and ever will be. The preservation of human life.

every sperm is great

if a single sperm is wasted

God gets quite irate

Planned Parenthood will be receiving my donation this year, as well. So they present abortion as an OPTION...so what? Their MAIN concentration is on PREVENTING abortions by providing women worldwide with contraception.

I do back-flips when I hear the negative stuff about Planned Parenthood. My daughter has a friend who found herself pregnant at 17, went to Planned Parenthood, learned of the options and decided to take her pregnancy to term. WHO gave her pre-natal care? Planned Parenthood. WHO gave her advice on how to care for her newborn? Planned Parenthood. WHO gave her advice on how to prevent future unwanted pregnancies? Planned Parenthood.

I've seen countless comments made on how Planned Parenthood makes their living off abortions. One might want to check out one of the anti-abortion sites on the web who went after Planned Parenthood with the thought of PROVING this, but learned instead that they make their money off providing cheaper than pharmacy contraception.

Some friend!!! What a slut!! and only 17 too..... Maybe if her parents had bothered being parents, children wouldn't be having children.

Dear Mr. Get-off-Your-High-Horse--

Pam, stop bitching... Slut covers both parties just fine, thank you. Makes you wonder what kind of parents both kids have.... So, you admit it is a baby. You still feel fine with cutting it up to pieces and vacuuming it out of the womb?

The girl involved in my story never really knew her father, although she HAS met him. He never paid child support for her. I really don't even know if he and her mother were ever married. I never considered it any of my business to pursue these little things. I met her as a friend of my daughter. I understood that her mother was trying to raise three children on a secretary's salary and that their clothing was purchased at a thrift store, which wouldn't have meant anything if she weren't attending a school in North Texas where most of the students came from wealthy families.

I never considered it any of my business to discuss this girl's sex life either. I simply honored her choices, and I think she's doing a good job raising her son.

Anita--

I did not mean any criticism of the young girl. I was angry that someone judged her as a 'slut' and conveniently forgot about the boy who must have been there too.

It's unfortunate that she had a baby so young. It doesn't make her a slut. I know two fine ladies who had babies at 17. One married the baby's father and stayed married for the next 57 years. She was my mother-in-law.

Yes, actions have consequences. But mothers, especially young mothers, need all the help we can give them. They don't need to be called 'sluts'.
