-- Mei Ling Chen (mchen@oswego.edu), February 16, 2001

In 79 AD a volcano near Pompay blew up and everyone in the city was killed. I am not sure if this is the erruption with the highest casulty rate, but it seems pretty close to me.

The volcanic eruption in Pompaey was a big one it was a piroclastic explosion this is the worst explosion because it is a big ball of hot ash and explosive posinous gases traveling very fast.
