I was under the impression that custom functions are supposed to work only in non-pic and non-green modes, but I don't think this would work for the DX setting, since the EI would change when switching back & forth between modes.

I don't have an A2 to check this with but I did try it on an Elan that was introduced at about the same time. When you set the CF for ignoring DX coding, it ignores the DX code in all modes. I would assume this to be true with the A2 as well.

This might be a great unkown without actually testing it. you could do it without film, but there is no DX code to read when you switched to the amatuer modes. One way ot test with film is set the camera to CF3=1 and set the manual film speed to 6400 with, say, a 100 speed film loaded. You could then tell the difference between shutter legnths when you switched modes.

However, I would just not use the picture/amateur/whatever modes and work with Tv, Av, or M. Maybe P, but I never used it so I don't understand it. The first three modes, Tv, AV, or M, are all you really need to work effectively. For me CF3 not set to automatic is bound to casue trouble.

In my opinion, stay with the advanced modes. The amateur modes are useless. I always keep the DX setting off and set my own ISO and check it regularly. If you have an A2, why would you even consider the amateur settings? That's what the Rebels are for...and, that's ok!
