Rough Cut Lumber

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi,

We use rough cut lumber to cover outbuildings like the well house and the chicken house. We use it board and batten style and want to keep it from turning grey from the weather. Does anyone know of a way to coat or preserve the lumber (it is pine) so it will stay a light gold color?

Thanks for your help.

Try linseed oil or sealer.

Linseed oil - sprayed on with a garden sprayer.

Thanks to both of you who responded. Can I buy large amounts of linseed oil, like 5 or more gals at a time? We have alot of outbuildings that are covered in board and batten that need to be treated. I have only seen small one gallon linseed oil containers.

Thanks again!

I built a barn with rough sawn lumber, board and baton. I used a product called CWF-UV made by the FLOOD Company. It seems to be holding up well for the last three years. Also used it on our poplar log home, applied 8 years ago. It is holding up well there too, with very little graying. This product comes in clear, cedartone, and redwood. We used clear on the barn, and cedartone on our log home. We posted pictures of both structures on our e-board at http://www1.eboard.com/eboard/servlet/BoardServlet?
