Mirror repair advise

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

I have a 67II that I've owned for a little over a year (naturally). I noticed a small amount of the silver backing was missing from the mirror near the corner of the bottom edge. Small as in about 1/16" along the edge, and about 1/32" inch up from the edge. To be honest, this may have been there all along and I never noticed until today. It does not appear in my viewfinder at all, so obviously it's not causing problems with either metering or focusing. I have no way of knowing if this is a progressive problem yet. My question is in two parts:

a) Does anyone know what I should expect to pay to have the mirror replaced?

b) Would you even bother with unless it became a problem.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I wouldn't mess with it if it were mine, but do keep an eye on it to see if it expands. If memory serves me correctly, Pentax went to a silver first surface mirror from what was an aluminum first surface mirror to increase finder brightness. I believe the prism surfaces were changed to silver as well. It is a new process for Pentax, so there could be a problem. SR
