Using old jar of Wheat Germ?

I've been experimenting with cracker baking and have found a recipe for wheat thins that I would like to try. It calls for wheat germ. I have 2 jars of wheat germ that I bought in 1997. It's in airtight glass jars that I've kept in the basement. Does anyone know if this would still be good and if I should try to use it? I don't normally use wheat germ so I'm not familiar with it. My daughter was helping me shop at a whole foods store and filled the bags from the wrong bin. We didn't realize what we'd bought until we were home and unpacking it. There's about 2 pounds of it in the jars. The recipe only calls for a few Tablespoons, so if you have any other suggestions for using it, I'd appreciate those also. Thanks.

As long as it doesn't smell rancid it's good. You can add it to bread recipes and hot cereals.

You can also add a little to your cookie recipes. It's very nutritious. mary

If it smells okay, I would use it. Then put the rest in the freezer,and it will keep a long time. I have given some really old wheatgerm to my chickens. They loved it,although there is not much they don't like.
