I've tried burning a few VCDs onto 80-minute CD-Rs with Nero 4. I can play them on any computer with VCD-player software, but have tried them on two DVD players that say they play Video CDs right on the front, and neither of them could read the disk. I don't see why 80-min would make a difference, so what could be going wrong?

Just to let you know that it probably doesn't have anything to do with 80min. cd-rs. Go to www.vcdhelp.com for a dvd-player compatibility listing. Not all dvd players can play certain cd-rs or cd-rws. Hope this helps.

Ive used 80min CD-R before and it works fine. I have a Pioneer 535. Does 74min CDRs work on you player?

I've recently begun doing all my TV show archiving to 80 min (700 MB) discs in SVCD format. The typical 1 hour show edits out (remove commercials) to about 43 minutes. This equates to a 798 Mb SVCD clip (CBR @ 2.3 Mb/s). Using Nero, enabling DAO and choosing "overburn" (ignoring the Nero warning) results in a very "full" 700 MB disc burned with 798 Mb data. This plays perfectly in my stand alone Philips DVD player. To play "any" home made disc burned on CDR media you need a DVD player that is capable of reading CDR type media. Normally you'll have best results with DVD players have "dual" lasers. As other posters have noted, you should check the lists to see if your model DVD player can not only read VCD and SVCD but can also work with consumer CDR type media. If you do experiment with "over-burning" make sure your burner can handle it. Nero warns you that over-burning might render your disc un-playable and/or damage your burner. I'm using a Plextor SCSI burner and have had no trouble.

Very few DVD players will play a VCD on a CD-R. It has very little if anything to do with the type of disk or the color of the bottom of the disk. They just won't. I have found that quite a few will play them if you use a CD-RW disk.

this sort of relates to this issue but not really. yeah the time has nothing to do with it. I just burned an xvcd with a bitrate of 1800 on a (clip was 54min 10 seconds)80min cdr. I CAME WITHIN 15 SECONDS of using up the entire disc (THANKS TO THE XVCD CALCULATOR'S slightly in accurate results for time) and the pioneer still played it with no problems at all

Where can I get one of those Xvcd calculators? I successfully created an xvcd using 2500 kb/s bit rate. It wouldn't work using Nero to burn though - any settings I missed??. I had to use NTI burn software instead.

bitrates of 3000 k/bps!!!

can anyone tell me if win on cd 8 lets you create menus ect for svcd as well as vcd?

nero only lets me make 1 menu ect nero 5.5 new update
