"Disenfranchised" Now Known As "Weeble" -- who cares?

To whom it may concern,

I will no longer post under the handles Dis@enfranch.ized, Dis@enfranch.ised, or deeplydis@enfranch.ised.

This announcement does not reflect a change in my political status; However, in the interest of Getting On with It and not Becoming a Boring Guest, I have decided upon the most stringent reflection to change my hanlde to Weeble. Maybe I will someday get a Hotmail address in that name.

/wee'b*l/ An egg-shaped plastic toy person with a weight in the bottom so that, if tipped over, they would right themselves and stand up again. They were popular in the UK during the 1970s and were famous for the slogan "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down", unlike some computers (pretty tenuous link with computing).

Howdy capn. Is the bar open? I could use a hot chocolate with some kick today. What alcoholic additive can I add that won't make it to sweet?

The bar is allways open, would ya like a stout mudslide? With an extra dose of 151?

Weeble--

Going back a little further than the 70s--do you know what a schmoo is?

I'm one of the pushing 40somethings on this board. I remember wraping a Schmoo set one Christmas. Some teeny bopper put a pic on his web site. It's Weeble@Wee.ble), February 04, 2001.

What the hell?!?!?

-- (Weeble@Wee.ble), February 04, 2001.

Post chomped by bad rendering of html. The schmoo pic: Schmoo. Guess I'd better lay off the hot chocolate capn.

-- (Weeble@Wee.ble), February 04, 2001.

My memory failed again. It's a "shmoo", not a "schmoo". Shmoos were invented in 1948 by Al Capp for his comic strip Lil Abner. Weebles sound similar to shmoos.

Lil Abner

Can I help anyone here? Are you all OK? Posts like this make me think that physicians need to monitor this thread.

Bemused, at least Weeble isn't being advised by the Goddess Venus or some other disembodied voice, as a certain poster seems to be over on slEZy board. I won't type more, lest I find a dead, chomped schmoo on my workstation or a live (what was the s--oo? again) in my lunch bag.
