NewsdayPlane Makes Emergency Landing
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- A smoke-filled charter plane with 229 passengers aboard made an emergency landing in southwestern Sweden on Friday, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The Brittania Airways flight landed safely at the Landvetter airfield outside Goteborg, said Bjoern Lennartz, a spokesman for the airfield, located just outside Goteborg.
The plane was en route from Stockholm to Malaga, Spain, and the passengers were all Swedish, Brittania spokeswoman Eva Olivecrona said. There were eight crew members on board, she said.
The Boeing 757 was about 30 minutes into its flight when smoke was detected in the rear and the pilot decided to land, she said.
''It was a normal landing and he taxied the aircraft to the gate, where the passengers got off with all their belongings,'' Eva Olivecrona said.
Goteborg is 300 miles southwest of the capital, Stockholm.
