Raised to hate ?greenspun.com : LUSENET : notestoall : One Thread
It is beyond me and still makes me question reality, how can people raise children to hate down to the very core ? I can understand hate in countries where atrocities are being perpetrated, hate for the evil being put upon the ones suffering. But in this country, just how can we be so obtuse as to attempt to train a child to hate inoffensive people ? Anybody have a good answer ?

Ignorance and fear. Unfortunately, there are no answers let alone good ones. I live in the south so while gays and women don't have as big of a problem, the minority's are still hated here. It is the only thing that disgusts me about the south.

I was thinking about this the otehr day .... maybe one things is the very few people who seem to do their darndest to live up to stereotypes? maybe?
Of course, there are a lot of people who think teaching thier children to do or say awful things is "funny". Can't understand it... Brother-in-law taught his kids to call thier mother a "fat cow" or a bitch.. yeah, hysterical...

People like that are just flat out ignorant. They probably suffer from low self esteem also. It usually makes them feel superior to make fun of others. Unfortunately, I have a few people in my life that do that all the time.

Unhappy or weak individuals to always have to be bigger and better than someone else. People who can't be happy or fulfilled within themselves can band together and find a sort of community within their hate. They teach their children to support their views probably in a twisted attempt to "protect" them and add to their community.

You are all probably right or at least partially right, maybe more right than I can ever be.
What can we as individuals, aside from raising our children to be righteous citizens, do to help keep these things from proliferating ? ? ? ? We can't kill it with money nor can we keep it under control with laws. Is this sort of thing like a cancer ? To consume from inside ?
