How about a propelled grappling hook? Not in the traditional sense of using it to scale a wall. In the sense of pulling something towards you.

For instance, let us say there is a boat in the middle of a body of water, and they need to retrieve said boat. "Fire" the grappling hook towards the boat and pull it in to shore.

How they propell the hook is up to them.
