greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Alright, after a lot of storms and computer problems, we are ready for the KoA finals. The games begins tonight at midnight, and you have NOT TO MASTER ONE GAME, BUT FIVE!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

Since I didn't see any details posted on how this works, after studying the spreadsheet I think I know how this works:

First, each of us only needs to play four games, not five. The pairings show who we have to beat on each game (example: I'm up against Phil on Mayhem 2002, Lord Gaz on Out Run, Alex on Joust and Arjen on Yie-Ar Kung Fu). I don't have to play Black Widow. If I'm better than the designated opponent on the designated game I get 3 points, a tie is 2, and 1 point if I'm behind. I have a whole month to master all these games. The person with the most combined points wins the 50 bucks and the title of King. Is that all correct?

Now, what if there's a tie for total points?...

Also, two of the games were released after MAME .35 : Outrun came out with m36b2 and Mayhem came out with m37b3. I'm unsure as to which MAME version to use for these, but I'll start with the current m37b11 until anyone says otherwise. The other two games I'll use tg MAME 3b.

It could be a good idea to think now to the way to rank players at the end if there is one or several ties. Because there will be ties ! If we suppose that there won't be any ties in games ( it's highly probable ) and that everyone will play each one of his 4 games ( and not 5 ! ), points awarded to players will be 1 or 3, so that final scores can only be 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 points. It makes only 5 possible scores for 5 players, and 9 possible final configurations. And among these 9 possibilities, there's only one without ties ...

Whoa...hang on, five games ? I thought it was one game per round , including the last round? Thats too many for me. I`ve little time as it is , and with DECA2001 just started , I simply haven`t got time to play 15 games ! And as I`m dedicated to DECA2001 , I`ve gotta throw in the proverbial towel. No disrespect Chris , but it`s simply too much , and I take this moment to abstain from the final round. I hope this doesn`t incur too much hassle to re-arrange your spreadsheet etc..., and I offer my apologies to yourself and the rest of the players involved. Please forgive me....

No disrespect to you either, but u did commit to this first before Deca 2001. But, I will take your forfeiture into play. Each will then have 3 of 5, instead of 4. No problem.

This message just to tell to Gary & Arjen that as Donut hasn't obviously accept tie for the end of k1, I will enter some scores on games choosen by Parsley (even if I think formula for the final is not good : with 4 players after Alex retired, there is 75% chance for a tie and 50% chance for a tie for the 1st place !)
