Cathy Rodgers (Rogers?)PhD the executive producer and host was impressed by the team effort that saved appolo 13. They took stuff from one thing and made it work in new ways to save the crew. The 10 hour time limit was to simulate the urgency that the ground controllers had to face (My interpetation). If they didn't come up with systems that would replace the damaged ones the crew would die. Go rent the movie "Appolo 13".
