I understand that continental crust is less dense than oceanic crust, and that oceanic crust subduct, but how can the continental crust in asia overlap the continental crust in india?

I think to answer your question, it would be that when the plates heat up in the astenosphere, it causes the plates to move, well there are Convergerent Boundaries, that acutally over lap each other, which forms mountain masses such as the Himalaya Mountians in India.

The density of continental plates can also be of different so the continental plate that is the least dense will overlap the more dense continental plate.
