propellant / explosive

In one show I watched two teams build guns capable of hitting a bulls eye with a projectile. This was the show where one teams barrel kept blowing off the stand. My question is what was the propellant source that was used?

The Chemical Brothers used black powder, while the Brothers in Arms (whose gun kept blowing the barrel off) used cordite. As far as I could tell, the producer supplied the explosives, without the teams having to find it.

Thank you.

For thoughs that don't know that cordite is, (thats modern smokeless rifle powder). And yes they gave the experts their choice of the two. Black powder is by far the more dangerous of the two as uncontained black powder will explode & while uncontained modern smokeless powder only burns. I would have used the smokeless powder also but a better barrel & bullet design.

Try compressed air
