In class on friday we learned that the lithosphere was the uppermost mantle and the crust, and the asthenosphere just below which is the upper mantle. How far down does the asthenospher go? Does it include the lower mantle and the core?

The astenosphere's thickness varies between 100-200Km, it only includes the upper mantle.

If you look on page 14 of your textbook, there is a diagram that may help you visualize the depths of the layers. The asthenosphere actually is anywhere from sbout 50 km deep to 200 km. It is below the lithosphere, but only is in the upper mantle.
