How about a working forklift?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

Contenders build a working forklift. The object would be to either move a pallet with some sort of payload, or perhaps a 55 gallon drum filled with sand or water. The forklift would then drop the cargo and return to the start line.

Each contender would then move another load until all four team members have moved a load.

WHY NOT MAKE IT A REAL CHALLENGE HAVE THE TEAMS LIFT A 2000LBS BLOCK AND MOVE IT THROUGH A COARSE!

it is to easy ,they can go find a fork lift in the junk yard

The only way to make it interesting is to have them build a forklift that is significantly lighter than the load. The load should be about 5000 lbs. and the lift lower than that. Then have the course over rough terrain, mud, etc...

Dont give the teams a forklift in the yard. just junk tractors wit hydraulic cylinders and maybe a winch. THE YARD IS SEEDED. one team uses a hydraulic device the other a winch lifting device both mounted to car chassis or truck or van.
