Challenge Idea : Earth Movers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

"This week we've hit pay dirt! Our teams will have to build a machine that will move earth from this huge mound here to the goal 100 meters away, over there. No human power allowed, because that would be cheating! The team who moves the most dirt in the allotted time will be the winner."

Yeah I sent idea similar to yours to RDF. Sand in hoppers, chute on hopper 2m off ground. junk backhoe and front end loader seeded that have no drive train (must mount loader to truck or van chassis). Also grain augers and old pieces of a conveyor laying about. expert 1 is from John Deere(US)or JCB(UK) expert 2 from conveyor company in newcastle coalfields (UK) or WV coalfields (USA). Challenge would be to load one of two new dump trucks with drivers. when full dump truck would run across scales and dumps load and returns for more until time limit is up or hopper empty.

Move good old teara ferma say 50yards or more.Doing it with a backhoe or bulldoser. That would really get my attention. The most dirt moved from point A to point B would win all the pebbles as it where.
