Want to Know Your Personality Type? (Quiz)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Rebekah's thread on whether homesteader's are homesteading because they're shy or another reason inspired this. Hermit John mentioned personality tests, and while I don't think I found the one he was talking about, I found this one: Personality Type Test

I got ISFP, which means Introverted, Sensitive, with Feeling and Perception. I'm having trouble copying what that means to post here, so I'm going to have to work on it and post it later. It would be interesting to see if there is a pattern of personality types that are attracted to homesteading, don't you think?

I am an IFNP 1% of the population.

I'm an IFNP also. Maybe all 1% of the population is here on this forum! Sherri in IN

-- Sherri C (CeltiaSkye@aol.com), January 19, 2001.

I scored ISTJ "The Elder" 6% of the population.

-- Vicki McGaugh TX (vickilonesomedoe@hotmail.com), January 19, 2001.

Hey, that's really funny...I'M a IFNP too...do I sense a pattern here or what? Or is that just my intuitive, sensitive side???

-- Judy in Md. (trailhppr@msn.com), January 19, 2001.

ISFJ - figures, and I am a nurse. Wow, this test really hits it.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), January 19, 2001.

the meaning of infp introversion intuitive w/ feeling and preception the "searcher"

-- renee oneill{md.} (oneillsr@home.com), January 19, 2001.

ESFP - 13% of the pop. Huh, mine had nurse under it's list of jobs too, Diane. I was sitting there thinking "Well, imagine that!"

Every other time I've taken this test, I came up ESTP - wonder what happened this time?!

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), January 19, 2001.

ISFP here...

Ted

-- Ted Hart (tedhart71@hotmail.com), January 19, 2001.

I forgot to put in that my category, IFSP, is 5% of the population "The Artisan". If you scroll down on your results page, you can find a link to all 16 personality types, and read about them. Based on the percentages given, Extroverts are 72% of the population. All of us so far, except Polly, are Introverts (28% of the population). Perhaps this explains the "homesteading" urge to some extent? But we'll have to see if this holds true.

-- Joy Froelich (dragnfly@chorus.net), January 19, 2001.

My dh and I did this years ago. I'm an ISTJ, and he's an ESFJ. I'm the farmer, he's the city boy. We were told that ISTJ's are the most common male personality type, and ESFJ's are the most common womens personality type, we just got them switched!

-- Julie (julieamc@excite.com), January 19, 2001.

I'm INFJ--"The Knight" also 1% of the population.

Pretty cool.

Stacy Rohan--in snowy Windsor, NY

-- Stacy Rohan (KincoraFarm@aol.com), January 19, 2001.

I'm an INTP, a conceiver. 1% of the population! (No wonder I've always felt like a misfit!)

-- Rebekah (daniel1@itss.net), January 19, 2001.

I've got to confess, the results are down right scary for being so accurate. Are you sure someone isn't opening an FBI file and pulling these out of a file on us?

It seems I'm even the odd ball here. ENTP. The Tinkerer. Among other words that hit, outgoing, idea people, multitalented, interested in nearly everything, independent, non-conforming and sometimes a little rebellious. ENTPs play the role of visionary, promotor, marketeer and instigator. My high school classmates would love that last one. lol.

-- Notforprint (Not@thekeyboard.com), January 19, 2001.

ISTJ, The Elder, 6% of the population. It says I'd make a great bureaucrat. I despise bureaucracy! It also said I should be a farmer. Hmmm, might like that.

-- Amy (acook@in4web.com), January 19, 2001.

ESFJ, Figures, I used to teach kindergarten and first grade. That was fun. Thanks!

-- Nan (davidl41@ipa.net), January 19, 2001.

IIFJ, The Knight. 1% of population. Intutive, quiet, caring, peace- loving. Everything sounded just like me. I could be a music, art, drama or English teacher. That's exactly right. And Special Ed., did that, loved it. That was cool!

-- Cindy in Ky (solidrockranch@msn.com), January 19, 2001.

Me 'n ol Notforprint: ENTJ! Same as it ever was....(I have taken this test-type before..) It's spot-on for me. Too much to recap, btw. Thanks. Now how many cookies just loaded on my peecee?

-- sheepish (rborgo@gte.net), January 19, 2001.

Oops. ENTP!(Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Perception) Typo alert!

-- sheepish (WA) (rborgo@gte.net), January 19, 2001.

INTP for me, too, Rebekah!! Since I'm getting my college education now, in my 40's, it summed me up pretty well...

-- (trigger@mcn.net), January 19, 2001.

Mines INFJ (typo allert) and Steve's is ISFJ. Can you believe Steve's said he could be a Trade, Industrial, Technicial Teacher! He does construction! And he's quite good at it! And he went to Trade school. Cool.

-- Cindy in Ky (solidrockranch@msn.com), January 19, 2001.

Hubby is an ISFP - he thought the quiz was pretty interesting! He was really amazed by how well mine (ESFP) fit me! I'm the farmer/country girl; he's the town person - okay, so we got a few things backwards!

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), January 19, 2001.

i new there was something wrong with me. how come im the only one. ESTJ 13% wow hope some one else is to. Bob in se.ks.

-- Bobco (bobco@hit.net), January 19, 2001.

Ok some of it was right, I must of answered some of them wrong. I had a hard time some of the Q?s Some didnt even had a answer id pick so i just guessed. Mike

-- MikeinKS (mhonk@oz-online.net), January 19, 2001.

Well, I came back with ISTP, 5% of the population, called the craftperson. My favorite hobbies are crosstich and quilting, and I once hoped to be an accountant. Life got in the way with that. Now I'm trying to write a novel. How about that? annette

-- annette (j_a_henry@yahoo.com), January 19, 2001.

IIFJ, "the Knight" also 1% of the poulation. I knew I was weird. That's kind of a strange test as there were some things that I really had trouble deciding between. Like the last question, sheesh. They're both important! There seems to be a high percentage of one percenters here.

-- Doreen (animalwaitress@excite.com), January 19, 2001.

Huh, I took this test a couple of years ago and scored INTJ. Now I take it again and score ISTJ... I wonder why it chagned?

-- Jim Morris (prism@bevcomm.net), January 19, 2001.

it hit pretty well as it had me at ISTJ

-- Lee (sgrmtndrone@yahoo.com), January 20, 2001.

Interesting that people here picked up on the personality typing after I mentioned it. The test Joy found is a quickie and results maybe taken with grain of salt as many people test neutral for one or more of the traits. For example on some days an individual who tests as a near neutral introvert may test as a near neutral extrovert another day. The quickie tests wont distinguish this very well. Also notice that Briggs/Meyers label is avoided on these tests as powers that be will tell you that a true Briggs/Meyers test can only be given by trained personel under controlled conditions...blah, blah, blah.

There are however some really good and complete imitations on the internet. I've take several of them. Was very interested at one time, before I found homesteading forums. By way each personality type has one or more forum or list. I used to post on INTP list year before last. It is/was very active although most people there are younger and city slicker/computer techs/science types. Could still identify with them more than your average city slicker.

Was interesting, I hadnt figured Rebekah as a fellow INTP. "notforprint" as either an ENTP or an INTP is no surprise. He's a tinkerer for sure.

I dont have web addresses handy, but since there is interest, I will try and dig up some of them and post.

-- Hermit John (hermit@hilltop_homestead.zzn.com), January 20, 2001.

That would be interesting Hermit-I was thinking while I was milking where we would fit on the "passion" scale, as in passion for what we are doing. I have been thinking a lot (my dear one says that is dangerous) about some of the "devisiveness" that has happened on the forum on a few threads. It seems like some of us are super passionate about spiritual things, and then on the goat thread (as an example) there will be some that are super passionate about "their way" of raising goats. It seems that as our passion level goes up in any particular area, the more we think our way is the "only way". Just pondering.....then there is the passionate "against" something. Is there a test for all that???? How does it fit in with personality and homesteading etc. etc. I think it would be fun to explore.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), January 20, 2001.

I'm another ISTJ. This is really interesting to see what the rest of you tested to be.

-- Denise (jphammock@msn.com), January 20, 2001.

I came up an IFNP also, 'the searcher'. The personality desription wasn't too far off, but I have only even considered my 'least attractive' occupation out of their list. I would never consider any of the other occupations they list for me. I tried to answer accurately but many questions were a toss-up. Maybe I tossed the wrong way. Very interesting though.

-- Rod Perrino (redjouster@aol.com), January 20, 2001.

Says ISTP (hey Annette) 5%, craftsperson. Also said farmer, I liked that, and science technician - I worked as an animal health tech for 20 years. Fun and intersting stuff.

-- Darcy in NW WA (gatecity@tenforward.com), January 20, 2001.

INTP here. The test seemed pretty accurate. The first occupation was, dare I say it, LAWYER! Aaugh! help me, I'm sinking! I'm apparently a natural at being the scum of the earth! Isn't that great?

Actually, I've gone so far as to take the LSAT, and did well enough to get into many law schools. But since I know so few lawyers who actually LIKE their jobs, I round-filed the notion. Maybe it's just that 1% thing. Hmmm. What do you think Rebekah, Notforprint, Hermit John?

-- Laura Jensen (lrjensen@nwlink.com), January 20, 2001.

Laura, I've never considered being a lawyer. I have however, always been fascinaterd by all the old testament laws. And many times can argue either side of a topic, even against myself, unless it is something I feel really strongly about. I have considered being a scientist when I was younger, which is on the list, and wanted VERY badly to be a doctor, as long as I didn't have to work around people too much. I didn't get to do any of that, I just stay at home with the children and keep the goats. But, I find genetics very interesting, and am enjoying putting it to work in the goat herd, and mapping out which traits are dominant, recessive, etc.

I thought the personality description rang true for me. I've always been accused of not paying attention, becasue I was completely oblivious to whatever was going on around me while I had something else to think about. The only thing it didn't have was that I tend to be creative and artistic also.

-- Rebekah (daniel1@itss.net), January 21, 2001.

ISTJ "the elder 6%. that was scary having someone pick me out just like that!!!LOL

-- Sandy(FL.) (MANDARINHILLBILLYS@prodigy.net), January 21, 2001.

INTJ here, the analyst... I am a lab tech, looks like that was the correct career choice made so many years ago. That was fun, thanks for posting it.

-- Tina (clia88@newmexico.com), January 21, 2001.

I took a similar test years ago from the book DO WHAT YOU ARE...still comes out INFP..

-- Earthmama (earthmama48@yahoo.com), January 21, 2001.

Lynn and I took it. It hit me on the money with INTJ "The Analyst", 1% of the pop.. 3 of the positions I have held were listed as possible jobs and all of my "carreer day" choices were listed. Lynns came up as "The Helper", 6% and all jobs she has held were listed. Looks like introvert seems to be pretty much a common thread among us. (Didn't know we could be introverted with all the time we spend here. I guess we can call the forum therapy :)

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair678@yahoo.com), January 21, 2001.

INFP I'm not sure , I could have answered some questions either way .

-- Patty {NY State} (fodfarms@slic.com), January 21, 2001.

Well I reported in earlier as an ISTJ and since then had my Dad and my daughter take the test. I knew I was like my Dad, but I guess I didn't know how much! We are both ISTJ! Do any of you think you would be the same as one or both of your parents? I'm pretty sure my Mom would test differently.

My daughter's test sure explained a few things. She tested as a complete opposite of me. She was an EFNP. No wonder she thinks I'm strange. I must admit I thought she was strange a time or two especially with all that talking!

-- Denise (jphammock@msn.com), January 21, 2001.

We went back to check it out again. Answered them like the first time.Lynns came up the same "the helper", mine had the last point change to a p , "the conciever". Lynn says that makes me a "cyber- schitzoid" :). Thanks for the fun, I'm going to play in my worm bins now.

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair678@yahoo.com), January 21, 2001.

ISFJ the helper, Oh that would be why I work 72 hr a week at my job while trying to build a homestead and raise someone else's 4 year old.

-- Jackie(NE TX) (JLynne@neto.com), January 21, 2001.

INFP. really?

-- hillbilly (internethillbilly@hotmail.com), January 23, 2001.

ISFP-The Artisan 5% of population. always said I was okay and everyone else was strange .Could it be I was wwwwrrrrooong ?

-- carla (twosloans@texoma.net), January 24, 2001.

hey NotForPrint and sheepish..I'm an ENTP too! I knew there was something I liked about you, sheepish!LOL

-- Alison in Nova Scotia (aproteau@istar.ca), January 26, 2001.

I'm an ISFP also. Maybe that's why I don't post too often.

-- Jean (schiszik@tbcnet.com), January 26, 2001.

Hmm, wish I had seen this one earlier.

I am an INTP also 1% or the population??

-- JimR (jroberts1@cas.org), January 26, 2001.

Alison, gee thanks! I'm glad somebody likes something about me these days! :-)

-- sheepish (rborgo@gte.net), January 26, 2001.

I'm an ISTP Craftsperson also. These things are always interesting, like reading your horoscope. I'm a Virgo. I do take it with a grain of salt.

-- (phyllis.warman@twcable.com), January 26, 2001.

Another "elder" here ISTJ.

-- Terri in NS (terri@tallships.ca), January 26, 2001.

another ISFP me

-- Ann (avdb11@canada.com), February 21, 2001.

ISFP (INEVITABLY SHY FARM-PERSON)... My wife is the one that always wants to attend a crowded get together. Not me. Sure, you can get over being introverted... it just takes time and effort. I recall years ago, when I was about 20, I went and ordered this $900 CB radio- base station, beam antenna, etc. got it all hooked up in a treetop 60 feet high or so... I sat down and got ready to use it for the first time, when I suddenly realized how insecure and introverted I was. Gosh, what do you say !??? But slowly you creep into conversations and try to make friends. It does work, but it's not easy at first. Thank you Amanda, Cindy, Stacy, Ken and others who make these transitions in life a little easier. This is an EASY bunch of people to feel at home with, on countryside forum. You all sound like you've got dirt and critters in your backyard, JUST LIKE ME! .....................I'll have to get DW to take the quiz.

-- Action Dude (theactiondude@yahoo.com), February 21, 2001.

I got ISFJ it does not fit me, the only chacterisics that mached where private, faithful, sensible, sensitive none of the rest matched. I am out going, comfrontational to the exxxtreme, controlling,if people like me it's nice but if they don't it may be better, if life gets too steady I get restless, I am only patient at teaching when being paid undivided attention, and thrive on being the complete center of attention, I don't like compition, Other than Bible, or husband, it's my way or the high way,if you don't like it tuff.

Maybe many years ago it would have fit better, but I got fed up with "being nice" and getting walked on, now is lots more fun. Bitch is a female dog, dog is mans best friend, so there is no insult in the term as far as I'm concerned. I answer to it freely.

-- Thumper (slrldr@aol.com), February 23, 2001.

i really couldn't find the question so that i have to answer? can you please e mail me the question

-- ahmad ghandour (silentshell@hotmail.com), May 16, 2001.

You're supposed to click on the link in the first posting. But if you prefer copy and paste, it's: http://www.onlinepsych.com//home.html/Mind_Games/ptt/

-- Joy F [in So. Wisconsin] (CatFlunky@excite.com), May 17, 2001.

I had remembered this subject coming up while back and looked it up while it was on my mind. Thought there were two threads. One where I posted more complete tests but only found this one. Anyways lookin through the posts here again, it was interesting only one person posted as an ISTJ. That personality type represents over half the total human population.

-- Hermitjohn (Hermit@hilltop_homestead.zzn.com), May 11, 2002.

Hey Hermit!!! Seems like an eternity ago when we were all here doing this test. Talk about making me sad!!! Was never going to post to this site again, but could not help myself. Old memories die hard. hugs

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), May 11, 2002.

Intesting test. I've seen people refer to these personality types before but never knew the source. My result was scored as an ESTJ.

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), May 11, 2002.

Looks like it's you and I, Nan! We being the ESFJ's. Righteous indignation indeed! - what they're trying to say is the stones to tell some miscreant "where the bear shit in the buckwheat!"! Actually, there a few others with our attributes (and they are attributes!). George Patton, John Wayne, possibly Attilla the Hun. I guess we are very sensitive to the needs of others, and willing to help until it hurts, but very unwilling to abide liberal crybabies. So! Drop me an e-mail directly and you will be the featured guest at the Maineiacs Lobsterfest Countryside Get-to-Gether this summer. Probably no other Maineiacs will see this, but we have an awesome bunch up here, and we also have the very finest gathering, with a lobster bake featuring lobsters, clams, mussels, corn, and old Uncle Brad's famous seafoo0d chowder. Ayuh!
