CMM - Good or Bad?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Joel on Software : One Thread |
Greetings,I'm working for a compnay that is going through the process of becoming CMM Level II certified. I would be interested in hearing from other IT types who have been there and done that before. Of particular interest is "what is life like 6 - 18 monts after certification"
I tried to convience management if we could pass the Joel test with an 11 or 12 that we were in good shape, but they didn't buy it :(
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Take Care, Zack Jones

I think Peopleware have really great answer to your question (and it comes from the right people - those who learned from hundreds of projects). In short reason of most failures is not CMM conformance. CMM can give you not more than 10%-30% of difference, while people can give you 200% of difference. So it is obvious to pay 5% attention to CMM and 95% to people.

The Joel Test by Joel is for internal use: fast, functional. CMM (by SEI) is for marketing purposes.
